Should Alabama allow same-sex couples married elsewhere to divorce here?

quote:

As we reported Monday, a Madison County same-sex couple who married in Iowa in 2012, has filed for divorce here. The divorce is uncontested, meaning the two sides have agreed to the division of assets and they have no children.

But, Alabama law bans same-sex marraige and does not recognize same-sex marriages which occur in other states. Most states require couples to establish residency before a divorce can be granted. Alabama requires six months of proven residency and the couple has lived in Madison and Morgan counties for at least six months, according to the divorce filing.

To divorce in Iowa first requires a year of residency. Put another way, if the couple wanted to get divorced in Iowa – where they married -- they’d have to move there, live a year, and then file for divorce.

Why not? It's not like they could destroy the sanctity of divorce.

Plus, it'd be a nice kickback to the Trial Lawyer's Association.

Divorce doesn't have to be legal in Louisiana to make a "mockumentary" style tv show about it (think "Reno: 911"). I know some college students with some decent equipment that would probably jump at the opportunity to work on such a project in a production (lighting, sound, camera-work, ect), post-production, or acting capacity.

I'm sure the LGBT community would really have the red arse over that idea.

I think it's a fabulous concept. I'm thinking Maine Justice with gay divorce proceedings.

now that is a stellar idea, but the make up costs would be too high. Would it have some backwoods redneck/coonass judge or a gay judge?

ETA: dammit I wasted my 1000th post on this. I was suppose to start a babr thread on the OT. How long will I be banned for?
