When we were kids we were required to read Hans Christian Anderson's The Emperor New Clothes. You guys read it , right? It was a very important lesson we all learned as kids, maybe our first introduction into political satire, an idiom we all understood, and a warning of sorts about the pomposity and silliness of Our Leaders and of groupthink psychology. And other things some of you may explain better than I have here.

Now--- go ask any kid you know under the age of say 14 if they have read it, or better yet, if they know what the phrase "the Emperor Wears no clothes" or any variation therof means.

I'm at 1/10 on the day, understanding my sample is insignificant of course. But hey, these kids were from three races and like five schools. It's like the concept has been erased from the vernacular. The kids are unfamiliar with it . Maybe you will get a better response.

Regardless, isn't this one of the more important books we should have our children read, regardless of our political views?

illuminati School didn't require it? My Masonic preschool made us memorize it.

There are all sorts of things in literature and history that kids don't seem to have heard about. It's not political, really, imo. But it's kind of sad.

Kids today seem to be uninterested in history and the things that it can teach you. Like how it always seems to repeat itself. There is just so much information that can be accessed instantaneously now that vies for their attention. Most of it totally useless.

It is amazing to me the shite kids don't do in school these days....my son is nearly 15 and as far as I know he has never done a book report...he reads all the time but I can't remember him ever doing a book report. Hell when I was in school we did them constantly...at least once a week in grade school. I think the AR readings has replaced them.

We were also taught to diagram a sentence. At about the same time I was learning this a kid in my class introduced me to shooting craps....I can assure you that the skills learned in the latter activity have served me much more in life than those learned in the former. Poker should be taught in school....it is all about the math and a great learning experience.....
