They are going through a site called Rentreporters...has anyone here heard or used this place before? If so, how was the experience?

Do not do it. Never send money orders. Never rent without meeting the renters. Jesus dude. It's a big old scam. Would they happen to be in Nigeria? Is the house vastly underpriced? Are utilities included in the monthly rent?

eat: they almost got my wife with 3 different locations. shite pisses me off

I have been very skeptical from the get go on this. Guy is in London for work. I wouldn't ever be sending the money to him, it would all go through that site.

And yes haha rent includes utilities.

What's the best way to know for sure without getting ripped?

Idk man. Google reviews of that site before doing anything. I'd be very cautious about the whole thing.

Never rent or buy from anyone overseas that doesn't have a local agent or property manager. Odds of it being legit are slim.

Googled and the entire email transaction I have had was stated on there and it is a scam...oh well, glad I found out now before it was too late.

Even the company the guy said he works for is the exact same..MWH Global Engineering if anyone was curious haha

If you can't go meet the owner or a local agent hired by the owner to show you the property personally, exchange money by hand, and sign the lease, etc. It's a scam, 100% of the time

SCAM! I have a few rentals and have had my ads online copied a reposted. The "owner" was always out of the country on a mission trip.

My wife's aunt swapped their beach house in Santa Rosa beach for a villa in Spain for a semester. Their kids went to school there and both parties were very respectful with one another's property. I wouldn't use a third party of anything other than hooking you up with owners and dealing with them directly.

My wife almost fell for one of these when we were dating. Luckily I told her if she couldn't meet someone in person it was a good idea to walk away.

Don't fall for it. There's nothing available in Tuscany.

As a rule, you should be extremely careful making any major purchase through eBay or craigslist or Rentreporters or anywhere else.

I bought a used car through eBay and I'm very pleased with it, but I was extremely cautious, got in touch with the owner, asked a ton of questions, made sure he had a good selling record and only then did I fly out to meet him to pick up the car.

This is contrast with a house rental offer I saw on craigslist, which was far too good to be true and with the owner saying I should just send them my information and they'd drop off the keys in the mailbox. If you can't be very, very thorough with the owner, it's not worth it.
