I actually hope that Putin as a former member of the communist party does well and takes control over Ukraine. It doesn't have to be like total control but make Ukraine a client state or puppet state.

I agree that the former USSR with the exception of the Baltics--since they were invaded in 1940 and independent from 1917 to 1940--should be under a Russian sphere of influence. There is no reason for Russia and the US to be enemies. I mean who really gives a shite about Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan etc.

Russia was on the side of the allies in WWI and WWII and we have common interests with Russia in containing China in the North Pacific and in stomping out Islamic fundamentalism in Central Asia and Afghanistan.

This is not a troll. For a few centuries now Ukraine has been part of a Russian empire or Soviet Union. It's their sphere of influence just as the Caribbean and Central America is ours. They would never question our invasions of Panama and Granada. They know that when Castro falls Cuba will ours again.

Let Putin have this.

Yes, but socialists in this country want Obama to be "successful" since we feel that influencing the Democratic Party is out best chance for socialism.

"let him have this"....are you serious???....do you know how important that port is?
If you think Putin only wants to take back what is his so to speak, you are sadly mistaken. He wants to push his empire as far as he can, and will do it in baby steps. I hope you are around 15 to 17 years old. Please God.

I think a gulag system would be a nice step too. Maybe a few man-made famines and some mass executions. I miss the old days too.

I wrote that he should have influence over the former USSR with the exception of the Baltics. Poland is in NATO. Putin won't invade a NATO country. We have a deal with Russia that goes back to Bush I. No former part of the USSR with the exception of the Baltics will ever be in NATO.

If he wants to push around Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan and others it's no big deal to us. Name one strategic interest we have in Ukraine? We have a NATO ally in Turkey to keep the Russia black sea fleet contained.

poland had been under russian control for much longer than it's ever been a member of nato

plus russia has a duty to defend its citizens and territory in kaliningrad, which is surrounded by hostile nato member states like poland and lithuania.
