I'll be in Atlanta this weekend, but I don't even see it playing anywhere in the area there. I had to wait till I was in NYC to see Moonrise Kingdom.

Is it currently in limited release?

It must be because it is only playing at two locations in NYC.

saw it last night. loved it. just read it was limited to 4 theaters in the country. 2 in NYC, and i'm guessing 2 in LA. it apparently averaged $150k per night in each theatre. impressive for an indie film.

they are going to roll out it out to more locations next week

Wes Anderson flicks typically open in just a few independent theaters before going nationwide.

Even then, only two of his movies have been given a release of over 1,000 theaters (Fantastic Mr. Fox, and The Life Aquatic).

These days big budget releases usually get anywhere from 3,000 to 4,000 for comparison.

Damn. What does that mean for trying to catch it in Baton Rouge?

Moonrise Kingdom played at Perkins Rowe a few weeks into its release. Hopefully this one will do the same.

I liked Grand Budapest Hotel. Moonrise Kingdom made me worry that Wes Anderson was turning into a parody of himself. His shtick was turned up to the max in that movie. But it was dialed back here. Here is my ranking of W.A. movies:

1. The Royal Tenenbaums
2. Bottle Rocket
3. Rushmore
4. The Grand Budapest Hotel
5. The Darjeeling Limited
6. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
7. Moonrise Kingdom
8. Fantastic Mr. Fox

I thought if anything he upped the ante with even more panned shots and bit characters. Doesn't detract from his movies for me though, he's one of my favorites along with Danny Boyle, and Scorcese.

As far as Anderson Films go, it will probably take me a bit to place GPH. For now, here is my list.

1. Moonrise Kingdom
2. The Royal Tenenbaums
3. The Grand Budapest Hotel
4. Fantastic Mr. Fox
5. Rushmore
6. The Darjeeling Limited
7. The Life Aquatic

It's been out in Austin for a couple weeks. Saw it opening weekend.

Typical Wes Anderson greatness. It's a lot for the senses to take in, like always, so it'll just get better with repeated viewings.

Good list, except I'd move Rushmore up a few spots. I love it a lot.

Rushmore is easily his best film. Good, funny story that came before WesAndersonisms

much better than Moonrise, still a notch below Rushmore and TRT. I'd put it on par with Life Aquatic.

As in Baloo from here? Seriously?

I haven't really seen too many WA films, but this one kinda has me interested a bit.

Baloo is famous on the M/TV board for not liking Wes Anderson and PT Anderson
