Southern Miss finished up their regular season last night defeating Tulane and won the regular season C-USA title. They are currently

26-5
13-3 in CUSA conference champs
RPI of 36
ESPN BPI or 62
SOS of 162

A lot of people feel they have to win the CUSA tourney but if they make the semis its going to be hard to leave out a team with 28 wins.

So, Southern Miss IN, or OUT of the NCAA Tourney

Should be in, they'll probably be left out. That loss to UAB hurt them.

Agree 100%

They win that one they are 27-4 (14-2) with their only losses at Louisville, Tulsa, MTSU, and Western Carolina.

There's been a real push over the last few years to select mid-major reg season conf. champs who don't get the auto-bid over middle of the pack BCS teams. They're not in right now, but I'd like there argument more over someone like a Mizzou in the SEC

The committee has been inconsistent over the last 10 years. It seems like one year they will favor mid majors and the next will be BCS teams.

I think Southern Miss got a double bye so a trip to the semis would only give them 27 wins. There has been quite a few teams get left out at 27 wins and I think Coastal Carolina got left out at 28 wins. However, their RPI is good and it seems to be a weak bubble. Might depend on how many bid stealers there are.

MTSU got in last year with a similar profile, but at least they had a win over Ole Miss, USM's best non conference win is probably Georgia State.

Assuming we don't win the conference championship, I think the only way we sneak in is if La Tech gets the automatic bid and we win a few in the conference tournament.

Still remember Missouri St getting left out with 21 RPI and one year Air Force got in with a 70.

USM has to win the conference tournament. CUSA should get latech and USM in but won't.

The committee should do blind resume. Don't let them see the names of the teams. Just overall record, record vs. RPI top 50, good wins, bad losses, last 10 games, etc. Whatever criteria are important.

No they didn't. Tied with three other teams for the title and finished fourth in the tiebreaker. Hence the No. 4 seed.
