Planted two big trees last year. They struggled through their first year. Worried if they are going to come back this spring. When should I start seeing blooms?

You should see the buds in a week or so.

Evryone I see around here is cut back and dormant right now.

They're dormant. They'll leaf out in spring and bloom in summer/fall. Different variations bloom at different times. Do you even know what variation you have or what color the blooms are? I have some that are 20+ feet tall, and I have others that will never see 10 feet. Completely different variations, and they bloom at completely different times.

These are the light purple. They were already about 15 foot tall when I planted them. Just wondering when I should start seeing some life.

ahhh, so you are wondering when you will see leaves and not blooms....you will start to see branches and leaves budding out soon...flowers happen late in the summer...

Beautiful blooms late June to mid July in Houston area. Like a clock. Year after year.
Adjust this time of year for your tree(s) to start blooming for temps in the area of your country accordingly.

Just do not cut off the top of the tree like you see lots of people doing this time a year

Follow-up question: When would be a good time to plant them?
I dug several sprouts up a few years ago and put them in pots to plant at my future home. They are big enough to plant now, but should I wait for more consistent warm weather.

I know if you wanna nip crepe myrtle aphids in the bud now is the time to spray your trees.
Crepe Myrtle aphids lave that sugary mist all over everything under or near them

They're trees. Just clean up the bottom and shape the top. Chainsaws aren't necessary.

I'm guilty...
I'm trying to clean it up this year and let it grow but those ugly knots will still be there. I may cut them to the ground next year and start over
