I got this for my 11 yr old. The best $40 I've ever spent.

LINK

It's not just kept him interested and busy for hours, but DAYS and WEEKS.

Dang kid is producing soft and pliable squirrel hides far superior to anything I ever made my entire life using the old salting method. Heck, the kiddo has taught me a hell of a lot, which also makes him feel knowledgable and special.

One really good thing I like about this Van Dyke's vendor is they always have a couple of taxidermists on hand. The kid just calls and asks his question. Also, the tanning "oils" are water based, so it's kid friendly. They can upgrade to Lutan after they get some experience.

This is cool. My daughter would love it. I know she'd like to have a squirrel hide to add to her collection of feathers, deer antlers, bones, and fossils she has in her room.

The first few were really bad, but were progressively getting better (L to R)...

His last one was pretty damn good as he developed more patience, started thinking 3-dimentionally, and improved his skinning technique...

Apparently there is another skin in the process considering what I found in the refrigerator this evening...

Dang, I dropped off a whitetail and black buck hide a month ago. $150 a piece to tan. I'm gonna be doing them myself from now on, thanks for sharing!!!
