Might be a dumb question but do I need to completely fill out the packet and send all new stuff to them? that would be new fingerprints, head shot, money (of course), drivers license, etc?

Everything you need right here

Your fingerprints should already be on file. That's basically the only thing you don't need to send.

your lack of knowledge in maintaining your CHP is concerning. Makes me doubt if you remembered all the rules about when/where/how you are legally allowed to carry and use your weapon.

Yes you have to go sit thru class again. It sucks but you need a new certificate

Otherwise all you need is a new photo and your application and affidavits (and $125)

i just took the class last weekend, and we didnt spend any time going over rules and regulations, it was just basic pistol shooting/safety

i know you are required to read the rules and sign off that you did, but thats not as good as being taught them and talk about real world situations

Then your instructor failed to meet the requirements.

From Training Requirements Provided by Instructor

Three hours of instruction on the use of deadly force and conflict resolution which will include a review of R.S. 14:18 through 14:22 and which may include a review of any other laws relating to the use of deadly force;

I took the class with Gordon Hutchinson and we definitely spent a large amount of time going over real world applications of the laws and regs. Not only did we do that, but he even discussed situations that are legal but not advisable.

It's only a 1/2 day refresher course for renewals.
They skip the pistol safety, and go over the legal side again.

So you have to submit "certified true copies of court disposition" AGAIN?

dont take gordon's renewal class...

told us to be at baker range at 9:15am, we were done shooting at 9:20am, then we sat around the lobby of the range till noon, ate pizza, then were stuck in the classroom till 4:30pm. he spent almost 1.5hrs reviewing how to fill out the damn application...

then we heard the same six stories he told last time, and then on top of that the notary didnt show up (not his fault).

several of the renewals that came in to our class were griping as well. He does get a bit long winded to fill the required time and if you heard the stories before, I'm sure it's a bore. In ours, he even told a story in the morning and then the same story in the afternoon.

So you took a 9 hour class for a renewal?

yep...

got there at 915 left at 430
good times
and spent 100 bucks on it

so for my $100 i got:
-5 minutes at the range
-3 slices of little caesars
-almost 3 hrs of literally sitting in a waiting room
-3hrs in the classroom, 30minutes of which was a review of the changes to the use of force laws, and carry laws
-un-notarized affidavits

hopefully one of the other instructors will come up with a renewal-only class...get in, shoot, review the law changes since last time, get your certificate, get out

ok so after reading thru the LSP website a bit, i see that a minimum 9 hour course is REQUIRED for certification (and i guess, renewals).

so, we'll have to take our gripes to our legislators. i was there 7 hrs so i guess i got off early

A 9 hour class isn't required for renewals.

But the rules require the instructor to cover a specific list of topics -- which is the same list of topics that are required for first time applicants.

So shorter renewal classes are allowed. And some instructors do so. Others have chosen to do what LSP asked all of us to do about three years ago -- which is to teach a full length renewal class.

Years ago I allowed renewal students to attend for half a day -- but now I do what LSP requested. My classes are 9 hours, and it makes no difference if you're a renewal or a first time student. I do charge renewal students less (just so nobody thinks I'm making them attend a full class so I can make more $$$.

I also offer a 100% money-back guarantee. So if someone were to decide that they had wasted half their day, they'd get their money back. But no one has ever said they were disappointed in either half of the day.

Yeah i just called a local gun shop that offer CHL courses and asked about what i needed to do for a renewal. I thought I just had to go out and shoot again guy said i needed to do the whole course. Guess the only thing i will not have to do is finger prints. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
