I know this has been discussed on here before, but I am considering pulling the plug on cable tv.

My biggest concern is Live Sporting events, specifically USCe football. I can use my parents watchESPN account to watch most of it, but want to know a little more about blackouts from WatchESPN.

Any other advice?

I am all in, but my wife is putting up some resistance. I know we can get most content, but the extra steps involved will frustrate her.

I'm trying to cut some costs, got a baby due any day and need to free up some monthly $'s.

If you have this login you will be able to watch anything on any ESPN channel they subscribe to via their cable provider. No blackouts.

You might already be aware of this but if you get a Roku or Apple TV they each have a WatchESPN app you can use for this. You'll just login with your parent's credentials on the app just as you would on a computer.

Yeah, I currently use my own WatchESPN account on my Apple TV. It works great.

My wife isn't crazy about the idea...but the only live TV we watch other than sports is the news, which i can get over the air.

If that is seriously all you guys watch then you won't miss a beat cutting the cable.

That's the only live TV that we watch.

We watch a few other things on DVR, but most can be watched on Netflix (which we have)...I'll just have to wait til next season.

Depending on what shows you watch you can most likely use that same username/password you'll be using for ESPN to login on other cable network's websites to watch shows.

What does that have to do with live sports?

Go here and figure out how far you are from the towers. This will be a good starting point for figuring out what antenna you need.

DISH Network could be a viable option for you. Get the base package without all the bells and whistles DVR junk and you should be paying $50 after the first 12 months savings. It is cheaper than the $69.99 basic cable from COX

A&E and History channel have apps on Roku but you'll need somebody else's cable provider login to be able to watch anything on them.

You said you use Apple Tv

Does anyone know if by using XBMC on Apple TV you can get all the regular channels + most sporting channels?

My main ones are:

Science channel
Discovery
CBS/ABC/NBC local news channels
ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPNU
NFL Network

Thanks
