Hasnt been a lot of chatter on here other than the Steven Hauschka thread. And I get why. With the draft coming up and its FA signing time, its not fun to talk about kickers. But the kicking position is still something we need to address. We were 30th in FG% last year, and made 24 FGs last year, 20th in the league, yet we attempted 32 FGs last year, 13th most in the league.

We were 5/8 from FGs 30-39yards, 10/14 from 40-49yards. We were 1-1 from 50yards but only attempted 1 from that distance, 2nd least behind Pitt who didnt attempt a 50yard FG at all.

Considering how prolific our offense is and that we play at least 9 games in a dome every year (8 at home, @ATL), we should be in the top half of FGs made, attempts, and %. We were in a bind with Hartley due to the fact that he had an amazing rookie year and was HUGE for us on our run to the Super Bowl. Had to keep him around for a little while. But it became clear he just couldnt handle the mentally pressue that comes with being a K and just became very inconsistent.

Top free agent kickers:
Hauschka
Dawson
Josh Brown
Feely
Dan Carpenter

Top kicker draft prospects:
Chris Boswell - Rice
Anthony Fera - Texas
Cairo Santos - Tulan (awesome name)

Hauschka is the best FA available, but will get top $$$ for Kickers most likely, which is $3.5m.

I like Dan Carpenter a lot. He was 33/36 (91.7%) while playing in Buffalo. Average weather for Buffalo the football season is 42degrees and 3.7in of precipitation for month with a constant 13mph wind. The average temp for Nov, Dec, and Jan is 25.6degrees. Thats brutal. Especially for a K. And Carpenter was very consistent there. But sounds like Buffalo is going to retain him.

Who would yall like to see us get? Either FA or draft wise? Im not really familiar with the top draft prospects for the kicking position, so if you are familiar with them more info would be great.

Didn't we resign Graham to a 1 year deal?

Yea, didnt realize that... but still just for 1 year. Hes not the long term fix and doesnt have a big leg.

And havent we had 2 kickers on the roster before? A vet and a youngster?

But im guessing we just wait and figure out the K position next year...

We did this twice with Hartley.

When we had Carney we were trying to push Hartley out of his funk but Carney looked even worse then Hartley did and was soon after cut.

The second time was strictly because Hartley was seriously injured in preseason and we brought in Kasay(and I believe we eventually IRed Hartley). Kasay was cut the next year before the regular season.

So the short answer is no we haven't seriously carried two kickers a whole year.

We have a young guy signed that will compete with Graham and that will be it. If the young guy impresses then we are good. If not it's going to be Graham next year.
