I bet he's boiling then from dry.
Most of the roadside Peanuts you see are boiled from dry in a regular pot with a propane cooker.
I don't do it (from dry or in a pressure cooker), but I would if the feeling came over me.
I'd go maybe 20 minutes then cool the cooker and try them. If they weren't there yet I'd go another 20.
Medium heat with a couple of inches of water over the top of the dryed peanuts.

I did not know you could boil them from dry peanuts. I've never done that.

I soak mine for several hours first. Some salt and some everglades seasoning in them. Then I put them in the pressure cooker on medium/high until the pressure rises. Turn it to low heat and let it go about 30 minutes. Cut the heat off and let it cool until the pressure drops and it unlocks itself. They turn out boiled but not mushy, and have the slightest crunch to them still.

These are dried or green? I've done green that way and about that time. Or to be precise my wife has because I'm afraid of the pressure cooker-memories of a shrimp stew fiasco when I was a child. We use salt and Zatarains crab boil.

Usually green.

I'm not a side of the highway peanut cooker guy, but I am almost certain they cook them from dried - just cook them for a long time, like dried beans.
How else do they have boiled peanuts in February March April and May? Dried is all you can buy right now - maybe frozen green ones but I doubt it.

I guess so. Just really never thought about it to tell you the truth.

Hell I see them all the time. All over Louisiana and last time I drove from Atlanta to Augusta all over there.

You need to get out more often.
I don't understand the point or complication of dealing with this pressure cooker method.
Peanuts, water, and salt. Boil till done. Soak for a long while.
I work near a produce stand that has some very good peanuts all year round. I think the brand name is Hawkes. Generally they are either regular salted or spicy. Love them this time of the year.

First eastbound I-10 exit in Mississippi, right across the rest stop / Stennis-tour entrance. Nice lady who is there every day. Big NASCAR fan -- I know, big surprise, but she's fun to talk racin' with.

There is an old guy on my way to work who has a big sack of dried peanuts propped against the side of his fruit and tater stand. I'll stop and talk to him. I bet he knows.
Old guys always know the best stuff.
If he says yes, I'll buy some and do a photo post.
Assuming the wife will let me use her pressure cooker.

It took hours the first time I boiled them at home. And the kitchen and house smelled like it for 3 days. The pressure cooker does it in about 20% of the time with less lingering smells. I open the door to the deck while they're cooking and take the pressure cooker outside to cool off and the smell is gone by night time.

You sure you are getting green ones?
Mine take less than an hour and a half.
I do understand about the smell though. My wife hates how the house smells when I cook, but an early fall Saturday morning is just amazing with a pot of peanuts boiling while getting ready for college football.

Am I the only person who has never had boiled peanuts?
Posted on 3/4/14 at 10:25 pm to Neauxla
Nah, it's just a country thing I think. Lots of people I know have never had them or don't like them.

You can boil the dries ones. It takes 3x as long buy you can do it. I used a crockpot and cooked them for 24 hours.
