I meant more in the Coke and Popcorn / Project Free TV vein.

Coke and Popcorn is the best one IMO

yeah, there won't be any official support for those sites, but you can use the "Cast a Chrome tab" function. It won't be pretty, but it'll get the job done.

If we want those sites on your TV, best bet is to get a device to run XBMC on. (HTPC, Ouya, Android TV Box, Raspberry Pi, etc)

I'll look into Cast a Chrome. The picture is low quality?

Yes it does, you just have to open up Chromecast on the Facebook app and then cast from Google Chrome. Works perfect and the quality is great.

there's a good bit of lag and some choppiness. The cheapest solution with best quality is connecting HDMI cable from laptop to TV.

No, I've tried multiple computers, and Asus tablet, and iphone. Chromecast blows. I just gve one away and probably won't ever use the one I have left until it is better. The video quality is a joke.

This. Simplest and most reliable solution.

i have found the services designed for chromecast like netflix, youtube and hulu work flawlessly. I just can't get the damn cast from the chrome browser to work without massive lag and choppiness. I have comcast highspeed and I know comcast blows. Maybe google fiber will challenge them soon. for $35, chromecast does what it says it will and I like being able to go from one room to the next since i have chromecast on multiple tvs.

i love chromecast a ton.

i did have to get an insanely beast of a router for it to work solidly in all rooms throughout the house. my router is a monster and cost i think 150-200, but well worth it. it's a netgear nighthawk.

i would really like to be able to watch downloaded videos from my pc to chromecast and believe plex and realtime may be able to do this.. but i really don't know how it works.

Chromecast does not receive the video from your computer. It gets everything directly from the wifi. The computer is irrelevant. Only your wifi router matters

Then why does Chromecast require a computer or mobile device?

ETA: I think I understand.

you can play downloaded movies through realplayer cloud. i have not found an effective way to cast a stream from the chrome browser yet. I guess that is the only time I need the hdmi cord
