Some things at mardi gras kids shouldn't see. Can't deny that. Then again my parents weren't strict on stuff like that and I am okay.

yes, because Canal Street in New Orleans is a lot of things, but "family friendly" isn't one of them. Spanish Town in BR isn't very "family friendly" either, neither is the Perkins Road Overpass area during the Annual Wearing of the Green.

Well, you do know that mardi gras in New Orleans means only going to Canal Street and Bourbon Street according to alot of people.

St. Charles and Napolean Ave are about as family friendly as it gets and I would put it up against any other mardi gras area anywhere else.

I had to explain up and down why I was taking my 3yo to Mardi Gras last year.

Yes. Some places are fun for all ages. Some places are for adults. Why do you think otherwise.

Some of these parades are getting out of hand with the krewes themselves. Down here in Houma/Thibodaux something is going to happen. Either these krewes are going to be sued, the krewes crack down on extreme drunkenness, or the city is going to do something about it imo.

If you're referring to my comment in the Southdowns/Spanish Town parade, the guy asked which one would be better for young kids, and yes the ST parade does have a lot of people attending it and adult stuff that some might view as less "family-friendly"

That said, I have taken my kids to the Spanish Town parade, and would do it again as long as I don't have to wait in line for a port-o-potty with them again.

IMO, family friendly means more access to clean bathrooms, easier parking, ease in finding a "spot" and safety walking to/from said "spot".

That can be found alot of places, especially if you know someone o a route somewhere, but I don't think it is just classified by where a parade is held.

I don't get the Southdowns vs ST debate. Everyone saying southdows is more family friendly...its at night while ST is during the day.

It's a code word, obviously.

This all makes perfect sense and I pretty much agree.

I don't see this as what is being implied in the constant discussions about certain parades or parade locales being or not being "family friendly" here, however.

Agreed, the notion that Metairie is somehow more family friendly because there is less drunkeness, more families, or less debauchery I think is off base.

It usually ends earlier, has more access to places to grab something to eat or use a clean bathroom, in alot of places the neutral ground provides areas to "spread out", real estate is easier to come by normally, easier on street parking, etc.

I've seen more fights at Bon-N-vets store or across from Puglias coming up then I ever did on St Charles near the number streets or Fat Harrys. But, as a "family man" with no real connections
on St Charles anymore (everyone we know who lived on St Charles has died), it's harder to get my family out there then it is Metairie.

The churches and schools (Sacred Heart, St Christopher etc) are a nice option for bathrooms and such, but getting to/from can be a hassle.
