Looks like they are changing from miles to dollars spent. Completely looks like it may screw people. LINK

Southwest has been screwing people for years doing that. Surprised it took delta so long.

I think this may benefit those who get direct flights and dont rely on segments to get status.

I think you still have to get miles or segments, but in addition you also have to spend a certain amount of dollars for each status level.
Edit: Just looked at Delta's website, looks like for 2015 everything is changing. You get miles based on the price of the ticket and your status level, and not the actual miles flown...
Also, this just changes redeemable miles and not MQM's (MQM's determine your status).

You don't lose your miles do you?
I have 60,000 miles so far. I'm trying to get 75 and reach the highest status so I can fly first class

You fly 1000 miles a day, MQ doesn't roll over.

United has something similar now. You have to have x number of miles and spend x amount of money to get certain statuses whereas it used to be based just on miles

Definitely screws me.
My flights are usually Monroe-Atl-Somewhere on east coast. Then back home. That's 4 segments at 500 per for a total of 2,000 sky miles per trip. The tickets run 800-1300 usually. That sucks.

It's weird that they say offering one way reward travel is innovative. United has been doing that.
And note that it's 5-11 miles per dollar spent, not a one to one like the distance. So for the last poster, his redeemable miles will at least double with this program ($800 ticket * 5 miles/dollar = 4,000 miles earned).

Oh, well that's not so bad then.

This is sarcasm I assume
I actually like the points coming from dollars spent because I fly mostly from New Orleans to Houston for work and typically book the week of so my flights average ~$400.

I think you will come out way ahead now because of this.
