Guy gets DQ'd out of $1.3 Million at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. (Horse Racing)

Twitter Feed has been blowing up about this screwy story on a guy losing out on a $1.3 Million dollar jackpot because his horse got DQ'd 5-10 minutes after the race for "interference."
I follow the sport casually, but most who follow closely say this was a pretty ridiculous call.
Video of the race and infraction.

A little backstory on the Rainbow 6: The full jackpot is only paid out when there is “one unique ticket” on the winning combination. So not only do you have to beat the horses, you have to beat all the other handicappers, too. It’s one of the biggest sucker bets I’ve ever seen, and lord knows I’ve seen plenty. I’ve even invented some myself in my life as a bookmaker.
In the final race of the day, maiden-claimers going a mile and one-sixteenth on the turf, Luis Saez took the 16/1 Collinito right to the front from the 12 post. Saez and Collinto held a large early lead with some fast early fractions. Around the turn, the rest of the field began to catch up to the frontrunner.
Usually a horse in that position fades, finishing out of the money. Not this day, though. Collinito had enough left in the tank to hold off the field and finish first under the wire.
I can’t imagine the anguish. After winning races 7, 8, 9 and 10, this guy had to sweat Wildcat Red nosing out General a Rod in a great stretch duel to capture the Fountain of Youth. Then he had to wait 32 minutes for the 12th race just to go to post knowing $1.3 million was on the line.
Now he had to watch for 1:42.59 as a cheap maiden-claimer held off a full field while leading at every pole. At this point I’m sure he felt it was well worth all the torture.
Mr. One-ticket was probably slapping high fives and buying drinks all around. He had just won a life-altering bet.
Then some of us began to notice the “race official” sign wasn’t coming up. No one I talked to saw anything fishy.
Suddenly the 12 horse was taken down for interference in the stretch and up went the 13, who went off at over 39/1.

I'm more than casual. Been a couple times enjoy it but damn sounds like he got screwed, at least that article. The track probably realized they were out a lot of money and pulled some shady stuff.

My initial thoughts.

Ha. Gulfstream. A few hundred yards from me. Looking at it now from my balcony. Pretty cool entertainment complex. Watched the Heat win game 7 there last year at the outdoor amphitheater and go to the bars or clubs there to start the night sometimes. Cool place.
No idea about the horse racing. I can see them runnning from my balcony at times though.

Is there any action he can take?

Not sure,
This was an Interview I found with someone involved in the decision-making at the track.

quote:
HRI: Were you involved in the decision making process with the stewards via phone which some observers said they saw during the process? It was also reported on HRTV that you had a ‘sick look’ on your face when the inquiry sign went up?
A: “I had no contact with the stewards and phone records would prove that. I am [not a litigious person] but we’re thinking about suing those persons. Besides, [stewards] Don Brumfield and Jeffrey Noe would never listen to me.
“The sick look on my face is because the last thing I want to see in the final race are foul claims, horses scratched at the gate or a rider falling off his horse. I don’t want to see anything happen that might give bettors the wrong impression.”
HRI: Some sharp bettors, citing a turf race won by Old Time Hockey, claim the stewards have exhibited something of a laissez faire policy in the adjudication of turf races this meet, forgiving more contact than they would on dirt. Is that accurate, and where is the consistency in officiating?
A: “I’d have to look at that race, but I’ll tell you this. They took down Javier Castellano one day when he was four in front turning for home for drifted out. “He blamed it on the lights or shadows or something. If you look at that race you'll see the consistency of [Saturday’s] call.”
HRI: As of mid-Sunday morning, only the Am-West website was showing the head-on replay of the final race even though they showed the head-on in all other races. What happened?
A: “I have no idea. We showed it here while the stewards were looking at their films. The idea that that was a conspiracy is absurd. There are a lot of gray decisions in racing but we stand behind [Saturday’s] stewards decision one hundred percent.”
HRI: In general, doesn’t the lack of transparency in these kinds of incidents have an adverse effect on wagering integrity?
A: “Throughout the history of our game, there have always been controversial calls. In sports like football or basketball today, officials can watch replays. In racing, the stewards can look at things over and over for as long as it takes from every angle, including slow-motion.”
HRI:Gulfstream has a vested interest in the results since carryovers generate added handle. Isn’t this true and how much of a difference does this make?
A: “On a good weekend, $500,000 is bet into a carryover pool, $300,000 during the week. The blended takeout rate is 20 percent for the entire country so that leaves $100,000 for all the tracks. Our share of that is 7 percent, of which 3.5 percent goes to the horsemen, that’s about $35,000 for us.”
HRI: Is there a chance that Saturday’s incident could result in a criminal investigation?
A: “We are completely confident the stewards made the right decision and would have no problem talking to anybody about it. We feel bad for the customer, it probably was the worst bad beat ever. But I have not gotten any calls about it from the customer complaining about the decision.”

Kind of reminds me of when I had a 5 fight parlay going for a UFC event.
Won the first 4, and the 5th one was Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen in their first fight, and Chael was a huge underdog. But I bet on Chael because I liked the match-up. Anderson was considered the greatest fighter ever and had not lost in the UFC. Chael was known as a scrub, basically. If Chael won, it would have been one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.
Chael was beating the hell out of Anderson for 23 minutes (and the fight is 25 minutes). I was already relaxing because Chael was just cruising at this point. I just won big money, I thought.
Then Anderson Silva pulls off a submission to win the fight with only a minute and a half left in the fight... it was the latest submission win in UFC history.
That sucked so much. I can only imagine if it was for $1.3 million...

Actually those are the only times I've been.

They are expanding scarletts. Bought out the entire building. New part opens in a week or two. And Scarletts is already huge. I remember when it was a damn hole in the wall low rent shithole.

The track is giving out monies they collected from the betting public. Depending on the track, they may have retained 12-14%.

I actually live close by Rachels. I don't get down to scarletts too often, but I'll have to make a trip down for the opening. It's crazy how many smoking hot chicks there are there.

That video isn't near good enough to tell anything. My first thought was maybe the Saez hit the other horse across the face with his whip. You really can't tell. It sucks for that guy.

I thought it was parimutual wagering?
It sucks for him that he didn't win, but the track doesn't benefit from screwing him.
