"Research at the LSU AgCenter has shown that the addition of salt to the wash water provides no significant advantage in cleansing crawfish despite the numerous claims to the contrary,"

Well now it's scientific. We should feel vindicated now.

I feel like the Ag Center issues this list of myths every year. I'm pretty sure I remember a post about it from a couple of years ago.

Yep. They've said it before, but it's one of those things that needs to be said every year.

Someone will be here before long to say how much better their crawfish are when they purge them.

Well, they're probably saltier.

Also, quit dumping tony's on the crawfish after they have been removed from the pot.
That just gets grainy shite all over my hands and does little to actually season the crawfish (unless you eat the shells).

Here is a link from 2004 that discusses the myth.

Yeah, I've seen articles before, as well. Here's one from 2004.
I get it. It's old news, but I got the daily report today and I thought I'd share it.

True purging is allowing the crawfish to play for 24 hours in fresh water. What's this salt nonsense?

I didn't mean to sound like an arse. This is just one of those yearly threads that I seem to remember. But you're right. There would not be a need if some people did not continue to perpetuate the myth.

Keep your article and post in the many future crawfish purging and boiling threads over the next several months.
