Couldnt find the old thread

quote:

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam confirmed at the Combine that his team did attempt to acquire Jim Harbaugh from the 49ers earlier this offseason. The 49ers' front office has vehemently denied talks occurred, but Haslam didn't back down when pressed by USA Today's Jarrett Bell. "There was an opportunity there, and it didn't materialize," said Haslam. It's entirely unclear what sort of compensation San Francisco was seeking, but pretty clear at this point that the Niners may be headed for a divorce with Harbaugh, probably after next season. It's worth noting Dolphins owner Stephen Ross pursued Harbaugh aggressively when he was leaving Stanford. Current Fins GM Dennis Hickey and coach Joe Philbin are believed to be a lame-duck pairing entering 2014.

Pretty interesting all around, and the 9ers will probably be pissed that the Browns went public with it

I have little doubt that it's true.

What is Harbaugh's beef with the 49ers, and the 49ers with Harbaugh?

That's the big mystery. Jim must be really miserable to work with for management to want to get rid of him.

They can but you can't trade draft picks anymore (unless that's changed recently) and, of course, the coach needs to be on board with it.

"There was an opportunity there, and it didn't materialize."

Disappointed Haslem didn't go further. Did he try trading a sandwich for him and the Niners laughed it off? Why didn't it materialize? Why is Haslem saying anything with a coach already on the staff?

Clear dissention between Harbaugh and SF but I suspect a deal was never close and Haslem is just trying to get credibility from his pissed off fanbase.

Guys that are as talented and high strung as harbaugh can burn everything around them down pretty quickly. He has to be exhausting to work with if his personality is anything like what we see. It also makes him great but I can't see him coaching anywhere for decades.

I wouldn't rule out Michigan either. Brady Hoke better turn it around this year or UM may go all out to get Harbaugh this time.
