Seriously though, reading over this, this seems to be one of those concepts that look and sound great on paper, but a nightmare to implement in reality.

Engines that move in their housings every takeoff in a commercial craft?


Bet that is fun to do preventative maintainence on.

There's a reason why US airlines haven't bought the A380 yet. Large passenger jets are too expensive to maintain, guzzle too much gas and run too much risk of not filling everyone of thse seats up for an acceptable number of lights. It's not a good business model.

Airlines are moving to smaller, easy to maintain and feel efficient, two engined jets like the 787 and southwest sticking with the 737.
