Surprising to me:

Using that extra cap wisely!

Meachem is our best blocking WR. I'm kind of surprised. I guess it will come down to $$$. I still want more youth and speed at the position though, so - mixed feelings here. I'm okay either way.

There's probably no guaranteed money and it's league minimum. He'll get cut.

The deal would definitely be heavily favored for the Saints I'm sure.
It's strictly for depth I'm sure. Payton prob just looking to keep the cheapest veteran receiver? So, if Meach resigns that prob all but guarantees Moore will be cut.

He's a very good blocking receiver, can occasionally make a big play, and is a veteran.
I have no problems with them wanting him back for cheap.

quote:Why not. You bring him in for vet minimum in the offseason just to see if he's still got anything(by far our best blocking WR last year and still runs good deep routes).
Gross. Why?
It costs nothing extra(or $150,000 over a rookie, which is next to nothing) against the cap because of the vet minimum and top 51 rules.
I mean it's not like Tanner or Morgan block well, so he'll at least push them to get better at it to try to take his spot.
Plus Meachem played better than Toon last year both blocking and receiving.
I know, eww he's old but if he's better than some of the fringe young guys you take the better player until you get someone good enough to actually replace said old player.
This is the same thing I've been saying about Thomas. Sure you want to get younger and cheaper, but you actually have to find equal or better guys first.
quote:Not the same type of WR and would have minimal correlation at best. If Moore gets cut it's more because of the cap implications and not Meachem replacing him in a straight sense.
So, if Meach resigns that prob all but guarantees Moore will be cut.
In reality Stills and maybe Tanner would be the ones actually replacing him.

Same here.
But they're likely gonna sign him just to be cautious incase someone else signs him for cheap. I fully expect that once he gets to camp and were confident we don't need him for depth, then we'll cut him.
But his market is Grimm so it wouldn't surprise me if he stays for next to nothing.

1 catch per game. No thanks

The guy knows the system, can probably be had on the cheap. With Moores future unknown, Colston would be you're only vet wideout.

Was Devry Henderson not available?

Meech is a 6'2" 210 vet who knows what CSP wants. I have no doubt the Saints will offer a very good deal cap wise.
New WR's will be in camp and he can compete for a roster spot like all the rest.
Not a risk at all at this point.

Teach him how to catch a football first.

He has been working his way back into shape since came back home to the Saints.

If you're talking about Meachem you're way off base. He has one of the best catch % in the NFL.
