It would be hilarious if the opening ceremony lost power for a while

I'm imagining Olympic rowers getting their arms bitten off by alligators

Houston put in a bid a while back. If they can do it, why not NOLA

In all seriousness, you'd need to convince the IOC to have the Games in May or June. The Summer Olympics are typically held in August and September, which is the peak of hurricane season. Additionally, you'd need to make sure the venues and infrastructure are practically bullet-proof, and delay as much construction into the Olympic year itself as possible, because you don't want a hurricane knocking down the facilities the year prior to the Olympiad.

And that's just the first hurdle. A lot of other things would have to happen. It's not impossible, but New Orleans and the surrounding area need a major facelift for it to occur.

The date seems to be flexible. The 1956 Sydney games were in December.

I remember most Games being held in July. Hurricane season wouldn't be a problem, but the weather would be terrible. I think for a Southern host, Dallas would be the most likely. NYC could be another candidate for a US city.

I suspect with the new Olympic sponsorship agreement between the USOC and the IOC, we will get a Summer and Winter games in quick succession. I'm hoping for Denver 2026 and Dallas/NYC 2028 or 2032. I was hoping we would bid for 2022, as the bidders for those Games are so fricking weak. Probably the weakest it's ever been.

Last three Summer Olympiads were completely or partially in August, although Sydney stretched into October. Rio and Tokyo will be in the same time range as the last three Summer Olympiads.

Anchorage actually placed 3rd for the 1994 Winter Olympics (the Kerrigan-Harding Games) and is bidding for 2026. I can see either them or Boston being real contenders for those games. You don't need the same infrastructure for a Winter Olympiad as you do for a Summer, so Anchorage has a shot.

I've heard the 3 main winter targets are Tahoe/Reno, Denver, and Bozeman.

I wonder how many ski World Cup events are done in Alaska.

I hope it's not Bozman, Tahoe, or Alaska. Keep the relatively undeveloped places undeveloped for a change. At least they're not talking about Jackson Hole.

Denver was supposed to have the 1976 Winter games, but there was a grassroots movement against the development of pristine mountain areas. "Rocky Mountain High" was in part written about the campaign against having the Olympics there.

After seeing the climit they put these games in, Charlotte should really consider hosting the Winter Games. Close to mountains, similar climit, and prolly would of given a lot more snow this year. Hell even Richmond or Roanoke could think about. Not sure how the mountainess areas compare, but all 3 of those cities are close to ski resorts. Or maybe even Charleston, WV. That can't be too far from Snowshoe which is decent size resort.

Charleston just isn't able to pull off something like that. I think Philadelphia could be a great winter olympics host. They're not too far from the Poconos and they have already the transportation and infrastructure to support it. They'd need to build a high-speed train or something to the mountains, but they wouldn't have to build hotels or anything

Could a track be placed in the dome? I'd think the dome would be one of the best olympic venues.

Doubt the Superdome can fit an Olympic-sized track though it could probably host the basketball and gymnastics events like the Georgia Dome did in '96. If NOLA hosted the Games in 2028, they could build the Olympic Stadium and then use it as the Superdome's replacement with minor renovations.

Holy mackerel. You might be dumb enough to drown during a rain shower because you forgot to close your mouth while looking up.
