In your opinion, what are the top 10 music states (from influence, history, artists, creativity, originality, etc.)? Certain major cities (ex: Detroit, Chicago, New York City) can vouch/carry a whole whole state.

In no particular order....

New York
California
Tennessee
Illinois
Michigan
Texas
Louisiana
Georgia
Washington
Florida (?)

I really struggled with the last one (Florida ?)

I was in between Mississippi, Missouri (St. Louis) and Florida for the final spot.

Music cities would be a better thread topic in my opinion.

No particular order:

Louisiana ( Nola, birthplace of jazz, funk, American pop culture, etc)

New York (cultural hub for the world, lots of jazz and classical)

California (LA, major recording epicenter)

Mississippi (birthplace of blues and Elvis)

Michigan (Motown)

Tennessee (Nashville country, Memphis blues)

Illinois (Chicago is jazz's second home)

Kentucky (Bluegrass)

Colorado (Boulder has a awesome scene)

North Carolina (Asheville also has an awesome scene)

Honorable mentions:

Missouri (Kansas City was a jazz hub, Branson

)

Florida (St Petersburg, Miami, and home to a ton of dope arse festivals)

You're joking right? Denver's music scene is a million times bigger and better than Boulder's.

Hell no. Cali, New York, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Illinois say hello. WA has Hendrix, grunge, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and Macklemore. Not bad(other than Macklemore). But it doesn't compare to the previous five.

eta-I'd even say Michigan(Detroit) is above WA. Actually, I'd definitely say that.

Minnesota should be on there for their contributions to indie-rock, alternative country, prince, etc.

And uh, Bob Dylan.

Florida is underrated, and somehow California is too.

You only just named the greatest guitarist to ever live, a Top 10 genre, and even if Macklemore isn't really good music, he still sells a shite ton. Think of him like Washington's version of Phish

.....in the sense his music is garbage but everyone loves him for some reason.

Denver alone should have them on the list.
