Ukraine is a proxy war between the EU and Russian Federation.

EU or US funded rebels perhaps? I don't know but I do remember what you posted yesterday and it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. I do believe Russia will eventually intervene. It reminds me of a similar scenario in Syria and elsewhere.

This will be the start of WW3 in that region. Calling it now...the ingredients are perfect. Weak U.S administration, rising Authoritarian in a major developed country looking to expand his influence, massive recession across Europe, Civil unrest among citizens.

Putin wants to resurrect the Soviet Empire. Ukraine is ripe for a pro-Russian take over. When, not if, the pro-Russian factions in the Ukrainian army intervenes it will be bloody, swift and complete. Russian total control over the gas pipelines will put the EU at Putin's mercy.

Russia would use troops to secure Sevastopol, if need be. I don't think a civil war is on the table though. That would take monumental stupidity.

Ukraine is the birthplace of Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church. This isn't imperialism.

No. The EU is divided in integrating Ukraine. As much as many Swedes Poles and Germans are interested in doing this, there are as many politicians and companies who don't want this to happen, as they don't want to pay for it and they have business deals with the Russians.
The Obama administration abandoned Euro-Atlantic integration, so we have made it clear we really don't care, and now that there is a crisis, we are spending our time fighting with the Germans on what opposition leader to support.
This is a fight between many factions in the country united in their opposition to the current regime which is run by a criminal clan and their internal security forces. For Putin there is great risk and opportunity.

I think RF may perceive this conflict as being the result of western propogandizing and even direct instigation.
EU may not be unified in wanting Ukraine right now, but I think its important to the EU for Ukraine to favor them over RF as an ideological win. The problem is the EU appears to be ready to crumble. Member states are starting to re-assert their sovereignty over immigration. Greece is perpetually fuxxored. Germany is tired of paying everybody else's way and doesn't need the EU at all. Russia asserting itself more in Eastern Europe or even offering a preferable alternative to Brussels could start big shite happening.
Some perceive EU as a big ole warm fuzzy voluntary family. In reality, more and more Europeans are viewing EU policies as incongruous with their local and national aspirations. There's also the widely held perception that the EU doesn't treat all members equally. Its a big govt failure, IMO.
If Nationalism hadn't become such a dirty word to the post-world war II generation in Europe (the counterpart to American boomer hippie frickwads), I think it would have already broken apart.

Ukraine itself is divided. The east is mostly supportive of the admin while the west is more supportive of the EU. I hope they can settle things without a fracture because it could get very (more) ugly relatively quick.
ETA: added more. Its already terrible, the citizens only choice is to fight back with force.

But they're right. The government has the only guns. Unless that changes, they'll just keep stringing them along with empty promises and delays, knowing if it ever truly escalated, they could wipe out the opposition. Last time, they killed a handful of people. This recent clash took over 20.
If the opposition has significant amounts of guns, I'd expect to see them used at some point.
