If you read the blaze, you may have heard of this story. This poor girl in Boston Children's Hospital.

quote:

The Massachusetts Department of Children & Families filed for Lou Pelletier — the father of 15-year-old Justina Pelletier who is the center of a controversy and legal battle involving custody, parents’ rights and two medical diagnoses — to be held in contempt of court, a family source told TheBlaze.

Would you defy this absurd gag order?

I've read this a couple of times and still don't know why the state has taken custody of the child.

Child has flu like symptoms
Child is treated at one hospital
Child still has symptoms
Parents take to another hospital
2nd hospital says nothing is wrong with her
Parents are worried about child
Hospital turns child over to state

Something doesn't add up to me.

There isn't much I wouldn't do for my children that I felt was morally right.

If she dies, the doctors and social workers involved should be charged with murder.

I always hope there is more to this story than what's been presented.

Seems a bit more complicated than flu-like symptoms.

quote:

The Pelletiers lost custody, at least temporarily, of Justina to DCF on Feb. 14, 2013. After taking her to Boston Children’s Hospital a few days prior when she had the flu, they say doctors at the hospital wanted to change her treatment regimen. Those physicians believed Justina had somatoform disorder, a psychological disorder that said the symptoms she experienced were all in her head. The Pelletiers, however, disagreed and believed she should continue treatment for mitochondrial disease, a disease she was diagnosed with and had been treated for by doctors at Tufts Medical Center.

When the Pelletiers went to Boston Children’s Hospital on Valentine’s Day 2013 to have their daughter discharged and taken to Tufts, they were served with a 51A form instead — one that accused them of medical abuse. Essentially, they were accused of treating their daughter medically in a way that she didn’t need.

Since that day, the Pelletiers have had limited communication with their daughter and faced numerous court hearings as it is still being decided what will happen with regard to her custody and treatment. The next court date for this case is on Monday, Feb. 24.

I trust the doctors at Tufts more than BCH.

I'm really amazed this can happen when there is a second opinion agreeing with the parents' wishes.

This also makes it obvious we don't want the government controlling healthcare.

If they are right she needs to be treated.

If it meant helping my child.....nothing short of laying my life on the line. If it's my kid or me. It's always my kid and in not one of those parents that defends their kids bad behavior.

At a certain point, You have to save face and give the girl back. Boston Children’s Hospital has the ability to treat for her original diagnosis and the new one. So, I feel like something is missing from this story.

The girl has been kidnapped by a stethoscope and a black robe with neither one presenting clear evidence of a justification to commit their actions. Why has she not been seen by other doctors to confirm her diagnosis as being the only true case.

I've been following the story for several months now. I believe I first heard of it in November. I've been waiting for any other information to come out, but this doesn't make since.

First the doctors at Tuffs diagnose her with a medical condition. One, or two, of these doctors transfer to BCH and so does the girl. Some BCH doctor says that particular medical condition doesn’t exist and that it is in her head. I believe while at Tuffs she was getting better, but once at BCH her doctor was changed and she wasn’t receiving the treatment she needed.

So now she is in a wheelchair because her condition has gotten so bad. Her original doctor that moved to BCH was barred for treating her. She was transferred out of BCH to a psych ward. All events at BCH happened without the parent’s permission.

I don't see how they can take her away when they had a valid diagnoses from a previous doctor. Doctors disagree on treatment and even diagnoses frequently. If it were my child, I would do whatever it took to make sure she got the treatment she needed even if I ended up in jail.

Of course they are right. It is the Dr's that the state agrees with. The state is always right.

Funny you made no comment about the other Dr's opinion.

The child is the responsibility of the parent's not the state.

I believe that when she was moved to BCH the parents signed one of those "I accept" agreements that no one reads. For the life of me though, I don't know how a court can't see take into account the girl's worsening condition and demand 2 or even 3 separate opinions…..from different hospitals.

Not trying to sound like an Internet tough guy but I'd likely be in prison at this point. I would've absolutely lost it at some point.
