After looking at thousands of dogs and getting input from you guys we got my son a new puppy.
He's a 5 week old Australian Shepherd. My son is still kicking around names. Top the list are Boots, Duke, Hunter, Bandit, and Rosco....

I like the name Duke, but that face looks more like Bandit. Cute pup!

Awesome dog and great color. I have a red one myself and he is a great dog. Right at 3 years old and got him from a lady in Kountze, TX.

He is also early in some deer tracking training and I have been pleasantly surprised by how much he likes it and how well he does right off the bat.

Thanks guys.

Mitch, good looking dog. How do they do inside? Can you control shedding by brushing often? I'm really excited about the dog and training him later.

He is primarily an inside dog and does well. i try to run with him as much as I can or just get some of his energy out.

I will say, he sheds like crazy. Brushing helps a bit but when he is shedding his coat all bets are off. A lot of vacuuming.

You will have fun training your pup. They pick up so much and are really smart. It's fun watching him go full sprint to snag a frisbee out of the air. He is also big enough to be somewhat intimidating and is protective in a good way.

Thanks for the info!!! I worked for a guy years back that had one. We threw the frisbee to that dog everyday. He loved it!!

I grew up with Aussies. They are excellent dogs. Protective, loyal, hearty, & energetic. They also shed like a mofo

Good call. That's a fine breed, and your son is old enough to play with him. Call him Tonto...looks like a redskin to me.

Smart dogs. When my wife and I went on a vacation to New Zealand we were able to watch some work. They were great.
