Reds just gave Bailey a 6 yr/ 105M extension. I know we got some Reds fans on here, thoughts?

I love Bailey as a 3 or 4 in the rotation. But that's alot of money for us

Damn, that's a lot of cheese for a solid (not spectacular) pitcher.

Good for him though. You are worth what someone is willing to pay you

To me it seems like Bailey is either really really good, or really really bad on a day when he takes the mound. He seems to lack the consistency for 105M IMHO

I like Homer, but that is ridiculous.

Couple this with the albatross contract that Broxton got to be a set-up man.

did it buy out any arbitration years?

any club options or buyouts?

If you look at his WAR he's a 3.7 guy so that's a little shy of 5 million a win. That doesn't seem that ludicrous.

17.5 million a year for a pitcher like Bailey is pretty much the going rate these days.

He's improved every year hes been in the league, and he hasnt missed a start since 2011. I'm fine with the signing. Probably means they lose Latos when he is eligible for free agency though.

I agree

I put in a late edit. I don't think this contract is that bad at all.

The cubs are likely going to have to pay more to shark to extend him and i think baily is a better pitcher.

Front office feels the team can afford it due to the new tv contract that is apparently in the works.

The local contract expires in 2016.

They are getting more money from the overall national contract though. I think they get something like $25 million more?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

He's been in the league a long time but this will be his year 28 season. So you are at least only paying for his prime.

I like it, I really feel like he has figured it out. He's pitching now instead of throwing.

I think its a little high but certainly not the worst, you get him 5 years in his prime, he'll be 33-34 when he is a free agent again. The fact that he has been healthy the past two years is a major plus. 17.5 mil for a 3 or 4 guy is pretty hefty, but if he improves on his consistency, he could be a passable 2 guy.

As mentioned above, the Broxton signing is a bad one.

2012: 43

Those aren't #3 or #4 numbers

Not a bad deal. Cueto & Latos have had health issues while Bailey rarely misses a start.

I hope the sign Latos & Leake and let Cueto walk. They have several stud young pitchers tha are less than 2 years away.
