Once upon a time an old man told me about the chewing of willow twigs to cure a headache. I used it some years later and found that it did work. I had to decide if it actually worked or if the ailment coincidentally went away after trying the willow.

They aren't too prevalent here. IIRC, the leaves flap in the wind like cottonwood and they have bark like a young oak tree for lack of a lesser known species explanation. I have only seen them on slopes that go down to bottoms that occasionally flood.

I guessed 2/6 before reading.

of course knowing the 3/6 does me little to no good in the woods of LA or East TX

ETA: well apparently basswood grows here did not know that.

The Basswood looks very similar to the beauty berry.

Basswood = tree
French mulberry = bush

They are distinctly different in almost every way, but maybe that's viewed through my eyes

Is a French mulberry what you call a beautyberry? I only looked at the limb posted in the picture.

That is the correct common name for it. Calicarpa Americana is the scientific name

Leaves on it are flimsy and shaped differently
Branches are flimsy
Purple/pink fruit

Yes. If you walk through high grass you suspect has chiggers in it and beat your legs with a beauty berry branch you will remove them. I know this sounds crazy but I assure you it works.
