So much money spent and all of those places are abandoned.

I'm guessing that keeping up the 80's era sporting venues wasn't high up on the "shite to get done during our devastating civil war" list.

I always find it strange to see this kind of thing...shows how fast things can go to shite when people don't behave in a civilized way...no one wins...

It isn't all like that. Torvill and Dean skated there again in the last few days to a sold out crowd. It was a re-creation of their Gold medal skate.

Personally I think them doing it again in Sarajevo was very cool. I don't like figure skating but I do like the idea that they went back to such a war torn area and celebrated.

I thought the 84 Olympics were in Los Angeles?

ETA: didn't see the word "Winter". I'm blind.

Scott Hamilton won his Gold Medal there and has expressed sadness, as have others, about current conditions of venues...sad!

Gizmodo Artilce on 1984 Winter Olympics

This article can explain a lot to those who are unaware of what happened. From the article:
quote:

As Natasha Gelling points out at the Smithsonian, Sarajevo became the site of the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare.
