Is this actually worth the money? Or is it just another accessory people insist on sticking on the side of their yaks to make it look better?

do you fish deep holes or look for edges? If so, it could be valuable. If you just throw spoons at the shoreline, then it is probably unnecessary.

I use mine just for depth really

And being able to get far back in the marsh with a GPS is nice

Well the GPS is a different story, those are definitely handy to have on board.

Depends on where/how you fish. Makes a huge difference when targeting fish not relating to visual cover, knowing your water temp and finding contour lines. If you fish shallow marshes in the summer or beat the bank with spinnerbaits for bass, it will be an annoyance.

How hard was it to install?

not hard

-used a scotty brand depth finder mount
-put adhesive velcro on the bottom of the inside of the hull just beneath the scotty mount
-put the other side of the adehsive velcro to the bottom of a water tight plastic container to put the battery in
-used silicon gel from home depot to mount the transducer to the bottom of the inside of the hull
-run the wires from the battery/transducer up through the hatch to the back of the depth finder

very simple, plenty of people have pictures online of this installation

What would the easiest spot to mount one on here be?

If you dont mind losing your polar pop holder in the middle, you can easily rig it to fit in there.

90% of the time its a copenhagen holder, and I'm sure I can find a better spot for that. But that looks clean.

I got one for christmas but can't figure out the best way to mount it. Would someone care to post a pic of theirs mounted on the yak?

Riseup, what kind of yak do you have, and do you have geartrac system?

I am about to post a new to the market FF stand-alone install unit in a few minutes that quite a few people might be interested in.

ETA: I will be getting one of these as soon as they release. Yakattack cellblok is a gear trac mounted, stand alone unit. The battery is housed in the compartment, FF takes a ram mount on the front ball, transducer takes an arm mount on the rear ball, cleat to wrap wires.

If you do not have gear trac, they sell the pieces in small and large sections to mount on your kayak.

This will work great on open boats like Commander and Ultimate due to no hatch storage for battery boxes and wires.

I'm a shallow water marsh fisherman, so no real need for me. But if someone gave me one, I'd consider mounting it.
