Got in for this weekend. Playing it now. It's kinda fun but I think I've just outgrown MMOs or something.
I really don't like that they've built in a dodge system into combat but it requires keyboard movement. I've always used the mouse for movement since it's faster to turn and more precise. Having to reposition my hands on the keyboard during combat sucks.
The graphics are good but it's killing my mid-level computer. I can get 60 fps in WoW (when I last played) on ultra but here on high I'm down around 15-20 with it sometimes getting slammed and dropping down to 8-10fps. Not sure if it's a sign that I need to upgrade my PC soon or if the game isn't properly optimized.
Questing is nothing new, just the same "go kill 15 of these things" or "go collect 12 of these widgets".
Combat is kinda just there. It kind of feels like a watered down cross between Diablo and WoW. You have a limited number of skills you can equip. Combat has a weird system where it throws down an overlay on the ground to show your range on attacks and you just have to make sure the thing you're attacking are inside your overlay. To this point (level 9) I don't think I've missed a single attack. Not dodged, not missed just everything hits as long as you know how to use your attacks. Admittedly, level 9 is still far from the end game experience so maybe some difficulty or at least combat challenge will be added later.
I've read that the game really changes once you hit level 20 and can run dungeons. Dungeons are supposedly just cookie cutter dungeons but supposedly boss fights is where the game really shines. Not sure I'll play enough this weekend to get to 20 and experience that.
I was kind of excited for this game and I'll still buy it, but I know I won't stick with it much past leveling up to the level cap once or twice.

I played a bit last weekend trying out a couple of different classes. It was interesting and somewhat enjoyable but I won't be getting it.
Like Atari, I haven't played much and I think my highest character is 8 or 9, so it's an extremely small sample size, but I didn't care for the combat and what seemed to be every person's attacks being AE based. Even the damn heals were done the same way...here's a cone and everyone within the cone is getting healed for what was amounting to negligible amounts of health.
Beyond that...I've come to the realization that I just don't care for the futuristic/space based settings. I need my MMO to be more high-fantasy.
I'm sure Wildstar will have plenty of people who love it, but it wasn't for me. I'm glad I had a chance to dick around in the beta some to figure that out before getting talked in to buying another month-long mmo adventure that I seem to get in to with every new release.

If you aren't going to use it, I'd love to try it out.
