2001 Suburban 190K miles.

Was low on coolant but not much. Looks like white smoke coming from tailpipe but it was cold and I didn't want to run very long just in case. Didn't run but a few minutes this morning and the temp only got to 180.

I think head gasket. I'm thinking bring it in. What will they test compression?

Crank it up and let it run as long as it doesn't get over 200 degrees. After that kill it and check the oil. If oil looks like milk you have a problem.

Oil looked good yesterday when I checked it. Wife said heater wasn't working so I added about 1.5 gal of coolant. Heater worked fine for me this morning.

Going crank it up now.

check the oil cap. If milky inside of cap, then possible HG.

Dust, I am having the same problem. 05 Tahoe, do you smell the coolant coming from the hood area after you drive for a while then park?

I have just been adding coolant, scared as hell to take it to the shop.

No coolant smell. Never over heated. But coolant is leaking. Mechanic is going to pressure test coolant system. I'll keep you posted.

He doesn't think its head gasket.

I doubt it is a head gasket blown if you only had to put a gallon and a half in it.

Most likely has an intake manifold leak.
Have someone pressure check cooling system to find where the antifreeze is going

Sounds like this might be my problem. SLOW leak on garage floor. I thought it might be the water pump, but could not locate source of leak at all.

Whats a ballpark cost to get something like the manifold leak repaired (is it the gasket that needs replacing)?

Tahoe has 110k, but I plan on keeping it a while longer if possible?

Not sure but it was the death knell for my old suburban. this was ten years ago but it was more to fix than the truck was worth.

Look on floor where leakin. if towards fr of engine most likely wp if rear of eng most likely intake. should be 350 to 400 for either repair.

Nodust

550 is to much atleast in my area. it takes an experienced mechanic about an hour to do
