I thought the SEC only allows each school to sign a maximum of 25 players per year.

I understand some will greyshirt, but how does Tennessee end up with 36 commitments?

36 Tennessee
29 Kentucky
29 Missouri
27 Alabama
26 Ole Miss

25 per year is more like a guideline / rule of thumb.

85 scholarship players on the roster at 1 time is the rule.

Tenn barely had over 50 scholarship players last year. They had to encourage students to walk on.

There is also a 85 team limit. UT is about 32 under that you you can over sign if your under the 85. That's how they get under the rules

From what I understand that 25 limit rule has many loop holes. The only one that really doesn't is the 85 man rule so essentially if TN wants all those guys on campus they need to only have 49 non-freshman players

Bench warmers get processed at Bama to stay at the 85 limit.

Tennessee has a lot of early enrollees that count towards last years class because they only signed 14 or so.

I like my explanation better! The only limitations we have are the ones we place on ourselves!!!

No it doesn't make sense. Why have a rule that is 25 per year if the rule pretty much states "unless you sign more than 25"!!!

The rule is firm. You can't just sign more than 25. The only way to get over 25 is if players are counted towards prior classes by being early enrollees, or towards later classes by being greyshirted.
