Mark Cuban is politically confused

quote:
Cuban is an admirer of author and philosopher Ayn Rand.[106] About Rand's novel The Fountainhead, he said, "[It] was incredibly motivating to me. It encouraged me to think as an individual, take risks to reach my goals, and responsibility for my successes and failures. I loved it."[107] His political views lean towards libertarianism.[108] He held a position on the centrist Unity08 political organization's advisory council.[109] While leaning towards libertarianism, Cuban posted an entry on his blog claiming paying more taxes to be the most patriotic thing someone can do.[110]
Cuban has donated $7,000 to political campaigns, $6,000 going to Republican Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah. $1,000 went to Democratic California Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren.[111]
On February 8, 2008, Cuban voiced his support for the draft movement attempting to convince New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to run in the U.S. presidential election of 2008 on his blog. Cuban concluded a post lamenting the current state of U.S. politics: "Are you listening, Mayor Bloomberg? For less than the cost of opening a tent pole movie, you can change the status quo."[112] He eventually voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 election.[113]

Cuban is great on Shark Tank and is clearly a very sharp guy. But politically he's bipolar. How can you lean Libertarian, be a fan of Ayn Rand, and then support higher taxes and vote for Obama?

I dont' really know much about him, he comes across as a douche. I know he's wealthy, but is he wealthy because he was lucky or is he actually a bright guy?

I think he is one of the very few truly eccentric billionaires in this country.
Basically, he's so rich he doesn't care that what he says isn't logically consistent.

He is a smart business man. He is still stroking Obama. He knows where the money comes from. Pay your taxes so I can get some.

Short of just inheriting a shite load of cash, you don't get to his level of wealth just on luck. He may not always come accros as such, but he's a sharp guy.

Billionaires hedging their bets does not necessarily equate to being "politically confused."
As flaky as Cuban is, he may very well be, though.

A lot of people voted against Palin and against Romney rather than for Obama.
(just like a lot of people that voted for Romney were voting against Obama)

He's confused in a lot of ways.
And simply lucky to get a NBA title for the Mavs. The sad part is, that will probably be the last world title for DFW in my lifetime (Cowboys won't ever do anything with Jerry calling the shots, Rangers blew their only chance in 2011, and the Stars are more likely to relocate).

dude seriously?
1) I'll permaban myself if the stars re-locate. and in a 2+ year span DFW hosted a super bowl, the Mavs won a title, and the Rangers went too 2 world series. How is that doom and gloom?
eta: didn't mean to hi-jack a poli thread
sorry Q

or maybe, just maybe he doesn't vote along party lines, but for the man running.
however, I think it's much more likely that he is playing the system because he's obviously smart as shite

I think you're missing the point and trying to hard to categorize Cuban. Just because he likes Ayn Rand's literature and identifies with the importance of the individual, doesn't mean he's an anti-altruistic cut throat capitalist.

cuban is, first and foremost, a pragmatist. hes in favor of whatever works - not whatever fits into a particular ideology.

The patriotic thing to do is to pay a lot of taxes.
by this I mean, work hard, be good at what you do, and earn a lot of money that way.
It doesn't mean you are for paying a higher tax rate, just that hard workers and achievers are going to pay more taxes than slackers and people who line up at the trough.
I wish everyone was like Trump and wanted to pay more taxes. The more taxes everyone pays the less the government will need to tax. If all these people on disability and on food stamps had good paying jobs, the rest of us wouldn't need to be taxed at such a high rate.
