Why do people want to put fruit in their king cake?

I just don't get it. It's a perfectly good king cake, why does it need fricking blueberries? I can understand Bavarian cream and cream cheese maybe, but i just don't get the fruit filling. Even praline filling is a stretch.
I also do not understand how some "plain" king cakes do not even have cinnamon. What is this, french bread with icing?

They have their purpose I guess. I don't really consider them king cakes though. The Zulu one from Ambrosia (I think) is really good.

Bought a cream cheese filled and Apple and pecan filled from calandros today. You stay mad while I run a train on these beauties.

Not if it's made right. I agree a lot of places can't make a regular king cake worth a shite. But if it's done right it's not a big dry loaf with icing.
I just don't get the flavor combination. I also don't understand jelly donuts.
I guess enough people like it though. If there's one thing that there is honestly no logical argument for, it's personal taste in food.
