Did everyone die on the plane crash? Was the island real?
So confused.

That whole series was like being in pergatory.

No. I mean actually watching it was like being in pergatory. Not the overall show premis.
Waiting to get where the show was going felt like it at times.

They tell you with words. Very easy dialogue what happens.
They basically have someone come on stage and say everything.
Island real, everyone died eventually. Some on the island, some at other places and times and met in a purgatory/meeting. Place after their deaths until they were ready to move on individually or in a group.

Just don't think about it too hard because its an absolute clustered mind frick Damon Lindelof did to that show. I read alot of theories and explanations regarding it and still don't know what to think.

First 3-4 seasons were amazing.
5 & 6 sucked

No. As Christian said, everything that happened was for real. They survived the crash, lived on the Island, and they all eventually died, some before Jack and some long after him. The Sideflashes was the afterlife, but everything else actually happened while they were alive.

Many years after Jack. Why do we need to know this?

Everything was real. They all ended up dying at different times.
The end when jack saw everyone in heaven or whatever it was supposed to be was a flash forward to after everyone had died. Been a while since I saw it.

The confusing thing for me was that throughout the show, people claimed different things on whether everyone died on the plane crash.
Then, the show ends with the credits with footage of the crashed plane.
It made me not believe Christian at the end and think that everyone died on the plane crash.

The ending was probably the only thing they stated clearly

Wait a day or two and watch it again. It's a million times better the second time. I agree with you that 5 & 6 were sub par but thought the finale was wonderful the second time I watched it. I was annoyed the first time.

My problem with the last season is that the flash sideways had nothing to do with the island or its mysteries or its properties.
And why did Desmond move from the real world to the purgatory world?
And what purpose did that serve?

This was discussed on this board during the active series. Many fans wondered the same thing you did. If I remember correctly this was explained afterward by the production team. They did not produced the confusing credits and made it crystal clear in their explanation that nothing related to the series was implied through the scenes of the crash shown in the credits. So go back and listen carefully to what Christian told Jack; that is the best explanation you will get about the relationship between the reality that was the crash and what transpired on the island and what the producers term the flash sideways world which was for all intents and purposes a purgatory that the closets members of the LOST team created together to move on together.
