Nice write up on Rivers from a national site. Goes into specifics on his shot selection this season while discussing the unrealistic expectations many had for Rivers.

I bet year 3 will be important for his career here. I have a feeling the staff is putting him on a 3 year evaluation period. He's going to have to show a Lance Stephenson-like improvement which I'm projecting right now. He's close but not quite there yet.

He does seem less spastic lately. It's like the game is finally starting to slow down for him (for those who enjoy sports cliches). He's not as out of control on offense, which is a big step for him. He still has a ways to go, but he's starting to show a little something.

As a 20 year old rookie playing on a team where only 3 guys started more than 60 games. This season you are getting to see him more at PG which is a position that he is still learning to play at the NBA level.
To many people jump ship on kids to early.

pros:
He's shown the ability to create space, he plays hard when he gets a chance, he continues to improve defensively, has good footwork and awareness.
cons:
He's a bad 3pt shooter, has trouble finishing near the rim, gets flustered too easily for long stretches, awful at the free throw line.
I hope he can improve, but I'll say it again, I just don't see it happening for him.

Let me get this right, you're projecting Austin Rivers to turn into a triple double machine?
This kid could eventually turn into a George Hill at best. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

But Stephenson was a mid-2nd round choice. Expectations are naturally going to be a bit higher for a guy like Austin

I understand that, but I don't think it's fair to expect him to improve as much as Stephenson did.

No. I'm projecting a similar path in their careers. Year one and two where they struggle but show flashes. Year 3 is when the light starts to turn on, finds a consistent role while showing flashes of being starter material. That's not unreasonable now is it?

Austin works his arse off. He's going to be a legit NBA player. I don't think Monty is the coach to maximize his potential (I'm not saying that as a negative towards Monty). I just don't think Austin and Monty are good fits right now. Austin has clearly lost confidence in his game and Monty is not the type of coach to show faith in younger players.
This article focuses on the weaker half of his game. To go from worst to just bad is better than nothing I guess.

Defensive improvements could be argued were Monty's doing.
I fail to see how Monty has done him any favors on offense though. Most of his improvements from last year come from working hours in the gym on crap he didn't have before: left hand, added weight, 3 pt shot, FTs.
