I fail to see how Monty has done him any favors on offense though. Most of his improvements from last year come from working hours in the gym on crap he didn't have before: left hand, added weight, 3 pt shot, FTs.

Well if you're in the NBA, aren't YOU responsible for your own improvement? Pardon my ignorance, but I just can't envision Monty Williams using his time to teach Austin Rivers how to shot fake and shoot free throws, etc when he could be doing more important things for his team. Or does the staff actually "teach" fundamentals of the system? These players are expected to be able to do these things at a high level already right? *Unless you're just freakishly athletic or huge.

I'm just not familiar with how NBA practices are operated.

I think his defense is or at least will be fine.

...until he develops any semblance of a jump shot, it will be tough for him to be very effective

He's just not a good shooter. Wasn't a good shooter at Duke either.

The guy was drafted as a project. Our backcourt depth has been fine during his tenure. I don't see why people overreact to his development. Wait until year 3 to judge his progress.

We can rattle off many players who struggled through two years in the nBa only to become a very productive player

Yes. Which is why I said it was incorrect to credit Monty for the offensive improvements. I don't see much improvement in his decision making/court vision, especially since he's operating as a PG.

Ok, sorry, I wasn't directing that at you, just ranting.

You think he'll continue to work at PG once Jrue returns? I don't think he has the quickness to keep up with the Rondos/Westbrooks/Irvings.

Best thing I could see for him is to work on his jumper around the clock and evolve into a Klay Thompson type player.

Holiday isn't ball dominant so that's a nonissue. The issue is the crowded backcourt. Eventually someone will have to go and that's likely to be Gordon.

i'd say he can be somewhat responsible for offensive improvements. positioning, scheme, play calling…all of those things this board typically hones in on as Monty's weaknesses.

He's a bad 3pt shooter, has trouble finishing near the rim, gets flustered too easily for long stretches, awful at the free throw line.

He's shooting 35% from 3(not bad)

He's up to 65% on FTs(11% increase)

Woah, I never Knew that about Lance Stephenson. I knew that he just kind of came out of nowhere, but I figured that was only because I dont follow the pacers. His first 2 years he was horrible, his 3rd year he started logging meaningful minutes. In his 4th year he becomes an all-star snub.

Theres still hope for Austin yet!
