OT Dog Whisperers I need help.

So my wife and I have 2 dogs.
Dog 1 Small mix 4 years old about 12 pounds and very low key attitude wise. She is just a little lap dog.
Dog 2. Small mix almost 2 years old. She weighs around 8 pounds. Also a little lap dog.
Got each dog while they were puppies. They have ALWAYS gotten along great. Older dog took younger one in no issues. They always do everything together.
Well just lately (past month or so) dog 2 has gotten super umm I would say defensive over my wife and I. If she is in one of our laps and any other dog tries coming up she goes all devil dog and tries ripping their head off.
Once I seperated each dog and they both calm down I can put them both on our laps and they will just sit there like nothing happened and will even lick the others eye goop out of their eyes.
Our biggest issue is right now we don't have kids but they aren't far off. We don't want them to be caught in the crosshairs cause the little shite has even bitten me trying to get to the other one and obviously we can't have that with a baby.
So any advice? Figured I would try here first before the wife insist on petsmart or the vet.
Thanks

First....get real dogs and you wont have these problems.
Second...the dogs may take to your kids just like they do to you. I wouldn't go giving them away without at least giving it a try.

Super small dogs. What's the big issue with a kid? Just keep the dogs away from the kid

I know people that had to give away their lap dogs because they were defensive and snapped at the baby. They can get real jealous if they don't get the attention they're used to

Weird question: is your wife pregnant? Sometimes dogs are super protective of their owners if they sense they are pregnant.

No worries. I just called the PD and reported a prowler at your residence. They will show up to serve some cold, fast, lead justice to the little shite. They probably won't even press changes since they will get participate in their favorite hobby

If you whip the dogs arse one good time for acting out it should fix your problem.

To discipline dogs, I have always held them on their backs with my hand across their chest while raising my voice a bit till they calmed down.

So the dog bit you and is still alive?

No she isn't. It was actually something I wondered about though.
Thanks for any actual answers.

You and your wife NEED to become pack leaders. Google how to do it.

Some dogs, dachshunds being one them get attached to one person and will be aggressive to others. Children included. Do yourself a favor and knock it in the head before you have kids.

I love dogs and have had them my whole life.
I make sure they are gentle with kids and have paid mega bucks for their health.
Unless you get some serious training for dog 2 he absolutely will be a problem with a child.

No both of them have been spade way back when.
It's just weird how she can go from good dog to devil dog then back to good dog in seriously 30 seconds. Damn little bitch.
