Interesting graphic. I'm all for private schools over public schools. Not really about the conflict though, just think it's dangerous for government to have their hands in the education of its citizens.

Private schools help foster the segregation of America in so many ways. keeping the rich from the poor and the religions apart. Great for those who want their kids not maxing with others. Yes in many cities academically better of course. daddy needs to make sure his Magnolia sweetmeat daughter does not mix with Mr. Riff raff.

I do think Public schools should be for all the people and not just the poor which the rich go to their segregation academies. and yes this is true up north too.

Would you send your kid to a failing school?

So you accuse private schools of segregating rich from poor but oppose a proposal that would allow the poor to attend private schools.

Everyone must be equally poorly educated? If a person wants to spend money to send their child to a top school they shouldn't be allowed! Hooray freedom!

I'm not saying there's not negatives to having all private schools. I'm just saying that a government can easily abuse their power when they've got their hands in education

All private education would be vastly superior to our current public education system.

In a private system, parents can move kids from failing schools. There is no such luxury in the public system.

Keeping your kid in a functional environment is the absolute worst thing you can do.

seriously? FIx up the public system and people would be happy to send their kids to them. News flash here. Not everyone who sends their kids to private schools are rich. They just don't want their kid caught up in any number of issues that they may be if enrolled in public schools,

yep. we must perpetuate the myth that diversity is in and of itself a virtue, at all costs.

Mr Tide gov can over their bounds of course. Of course you can send little Jimmy to a private school. But makes me laugh in my town. Half of the school board sends their kids to Parochial schools.. Hypocrites. I had an English teacher who sent her kid to a Private school and I made the comment when she told us because she didn;t like the school system, that doesn't this reflect on you? She was pissed.

There was an article in the NY Times a few years ago re Ville Platte having no money for football at the Public school where it was mostly black because all the "rich" kids went to a parochial school. You know their school board all had kids in private school.

The idea is to build up the public schools.

Yes. This is the crux of it. Its the automatic answer to everything.
Makes me sick how far people go to justify this as a principle.

The irony is that state run school systems produce less diverse educational opportunities.

Such noble post.

HUGE money thrown at government schools and they still need "built up".

It is foolish to continue to have government run schools. We only have them because some communities had no formal schools.

Government schools do create conflict and it is because they must be "neutral" so to speak and they must adhere to the loudest, most powerful voices of the day. They fight about things like school prayer because the government today is against it. If someone wants a school where there is prayer or one there isn't they should have it. GIVE THEM A CHOICE. They fight about funding based on race--what could be more fair than a voucher worth a dollar amount.

Nobody who cares about the poor will advocate for the continuation of government run schools. They hold the poor down.

We need school choice and school choice for EVERYBODY. We should immediately take all state and local funds and divide them among the people in the form of education vouchers and sell off or lease all our current schools to people willing to run them

We would market accountability---far more effective than the government. We would have schools that catered to particular needs instead of half assed efforts in some schools to do things like special education and vocational training.

Give parents and students choice NOW.

You really must not be well traveled. You sound really ignorant. This may be true in some areas, however there are public schools in other parts of the country that out perform private schools.

Just exactly what is wrong with that? Should Daddy not have the choice? Should the Ebony Princess have to endure the riff raff or should her family have a choice as to the kids they want her around??
