How did this get an Academy nomination? I was drawn in because of the technology hook, man falls in love with his OS. But this long drawn out borefest could be watched with your eyes closed, 95% of the movie is just dialogue between one character you can see and one you can't.

Wife loves romance, there is none, I like intriguing stories, not that either. At least Microsoft doesn't have to worry about anyone falling in love with Windows 8.

I had a high school English teacher who said this was the requirement of a good film.

He was brilliant.

The high point is the cautionary tale of all the extras in every scene are communicating with their devices. I'm a hardcore techie, I see that happening and it scares me.

You will get shite here for your opinion but I thought it was really lacking for all of the hype as well.

Was it a bad movie? No.

Was it deserving of all the noms and talk? No.

It was an average movie at best IMO

It was a fantastic movie and I think pretty accurate on where we are going as a society. Samantha's evolution was logical, as was their relationship. I doubt that AI will have that level of emotion when it first comes out (and especially not want to have sex with their users), but its still pretty accurate on what will be happening 30 years from now. I think it will only get better and more relevant as time goes on, and it is an incredible film.

It's really sad and inspiring simultaneously. It's difficult to explain. When you do see it, my advice is look at everyone else on screen. Not the main characters, but the extras. You will say to yourself "holy frick, this is where we are heading".

I actually didn't think the message was sad. I got more of a "no one has the right to tell anyone how to be happy" feeling after the movie.

That's not why I find the movie sort of sad, but the fact that we're getting incredibly separated from each other in a weird sort of way by the Internet. The internet is the ultimate oxymoron, because while we are more connected with people through it, we are becoming separated from everyday life.

I remember freshman year introducing someone to some new site called YouTube, and being mesmerized by the stuff you could find on it. Once the iPhone came out, all bets were off.

Not really. Seriously not trying to be a dick but when you watch it you'll rationalize it more than you think you can right now if you buy into the plot from the beginning. That's what I thought was so brilliant and original about the movie and the fact that you become emotionally invested in computer.
