You could read the thread and answer your question. Everyone who liked it has pretty much stated why they did.

The level of uncomfortable-ness that the movie evoked is matched by few films.

That alone makes it a good movie.

The great script, very good acting and all of the other pieces make it far above average. Maybe not "Great," but close.

Wow. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and all that, but I sure don't value yours now.

Good acting and good cinematography. I was not a big fan of the plot and lost interest 3/4 of the way through.

I watched it last night and I must admit I was blown away at how much I enjoyed this movie. It is my favorite of the year easily out of the ones I saw which were gravity, wolf of walls street, American hustle and the hobbit DOS.

the concept which I expected to hate actually had me by the end thinking anyone who would judge him because of it was a piece of shite. the evolution of Samantha was a very interesting process to observe. like you said I could definitely envision this becoming commonplace in the near future once technology achieves this point. this movie had me very emotionally invested I was extremely saddened at the end. overall fantastic film

I don't know if we have to include a spoiler alert in this thread but don't want to chance it

***spoiler***

what was up with the Olivia wilde date? she was all whored up and ready to pounce and wanted him for more than just one night and then he passes on the sex and she then calls him a creepy arse dude. she was all about him 5 seconds before.

I don't know, especially how he could pass up fricking Olivia Wilde.

yeah definitely a wtf pass up. her reaction was just odd and confused me. she was all about trying to see if he was a long term guy not just a one night stand so she obviously liked him but then all of a sudden he is a creepy arse dude. was he not a creepy arse dude before or did he become creepy cause he passed on the poon?

If this is anything like Electric Dreams, then I'm in.

but the fact that we're getting incredibly separated from each other in a weird sort of way by the Internet

that theme is definitely there, but he didn't lose Rooney Mara because of the internet.

The lunch scene was by far the most revealing and vital scene of the movie to me. Not because she pettily mocks him for having an artificial gf, but because she calls him out on his inability to accept who she is.

Comparing the way it ends with Rooney and Samantha is a massive difference.

PS- Good movie. Left me a little cold, but well done and thought provoking. Liked it much more than Inside Llewyn Davis

i'm guessing her character was based strongly off of her actual personality

My theories:

1. Still grieving Rooney. He wasnt ready to accept her as anything other than a warm body for the night

2. He couldn't lie to her about his emotional unavailability. Kudos to him, I would have lied through my teeth.

I didn't mean with him I meant her reaction when he passed on the poon

Drunk and insecure. Also look at her superficialiy to Samantha's.

Or maybe she was pissed a dude with that moustache turned her down.

I thought he was a creepy dude the whole time. the moustache solidifies the creepster vibe. she was all about the D and wanting a long term partner then he passed and now she notices the creepy vibe? bitches be crazy

Samantha was a superficial whore too though
