Just buy the disc, there is no telling what would motivate someone to let you get a non hacked version for free.

So in short, get a legit copy or don't put any important data on it.

I would just drop Ubuntu on it, but what do I know?

Browser hijacker maybe? I don't know, relaying info from noob friend to you, then from you to us, will be a slow, painful process. So good luck!

or he could download the legit .iso and activate it with daz loader. I, along with thousands of people, have done it and it works flawlessly.

I like ubuntu, but if he games at all he's fricked. Which is sad, because I would run linux if it was supported by all the devs.

Hope it works for him!

I'm so paranoid that unless its from the MS disc or directly from MS servers I don't want it.

You could just encrypt everything, and if you're that paranoid you should be doing it anyway.

You can get legit .iso's from the microsoft website.

Oh I do, I'm still figuring out how to lock Grub or SystemD to secure the bootload, but otherwise yes, I encrypt and use app-armor like mad man.

I just believe in responsibility in tech security.
It is so easy to hack most people's WiFi it might as well be an open network.

Hell if locking Grub scares the feds wait till they see my not listed SSID and my authenticator set on my only windows boot. Makes me sick I have to use it. Been thinking hard about setting up a VMWare but I'm not sure I have the juice.

Yeah, Steambox crippled by SteamOS because of the much smaller library available for Linux.

There's like 8 games that don't use the source engine for linux on steam.
