LSU Football 2014 Excitement

TLDR:
So basically I'm fairly excited for the 2014 year. Everyone talks about 2015 being the year, but that's two years away. First and most importantly, we actually have depth at QB since 2007. Even before AJ I was excited to see Rivers progress. Everyone will flip out over this situation, but going into the spring we have a wide open race with a ton of talent. I like Rivers to be the starter because it keeps the same Offensive philosophy under CC from this year which was explosive. Whoever wins will prove themselves and more than likely succeed.
The OLine is probably the strongest we've seen in awhile since Collins is returning. Running game will be a huge focus this year breaking in a new QB, which will compliment the QB since I expect the QB to be improved during the spring opening up the passing game with the always smash mouth running game we will have with Magee, Hilliard, and LF. Running back by committee. Gusta. The OLine will help protect a new QB giving him time in the pocket.
The WRs: obviously we're replacing superstars, but Dural showed promise near the end of the season along with a talented group of incoming freshman. I look for the TEs and RBs to catch a lot of balls this year. Dickson in my opinion will have a great year.
Defense just makes me moist. Chief has another year with a ton of talent returning. DBU is returning to glory. Linebacking corp is just about completely returning. A couple of new faces on the line, but LSU generally has no issue with this. I see the edges being fast and physical which was missing last year. I see this defense being close to that '11 group. Especially with the time to prepare and training with Chief.
Outside of LSU, it really sets LSU up for a strong year. We get to miss out on Georgia and USCe. Bama is breaking in just as much as we are if not more. Strange shakeup there. Auburn in my opinion blew their load last year and is a couple of years from actually competing consistently. JFF is gone that he ever posed an issue for LSU. The Mississippi schools are pretty talented this year, but OM at home helps, although it's always a good game. I think LSU is definitely poised at the West, which certainly helps in terms of the Playoffs. I look for this team to be 11-1.
I am more excited about this years team than I have been in awhile. Off season can hurry up and I can watch real dominance again. The potential is so high for this year.

Perfect metaphor.

Miles will stick with AJ no matter what. Expect the opponents to load the box and force us to beat them with running, which Miles will be all the happy to do. We will thus be in a lot of typical dog fights, and will lose 1 game more than otherwise, since AJ will resemble JJ more than we want in his first full year. He has a lot of upside, but Miles will use any mistake he makes as an excuse to tell him to protect the ball, which means we run 90% of the time. The defense will see us as extremely predictable, and as a result, even with a relatively easy schedule, we will loose 2 games and will need luck to make it to ATL in early December.

If CLM wouldn't have brought in CC last year, I would have to agree with you. I just don't see that as the case in the future. Especially after the progress offensively this year. AJ may start. I don't see it. If he doesn't show well, I could see a change in QB.

I am probably a little more optimistic than the average LSU fan, but this statement is a pretty damn bold one.
Good post though

I think Cameron is going to make that call.

Close is the key word. Last year the talent was so young. Most of that talent returns. Especially with other offenses rebuilding, I see this defense being vastly improved. I like it. It will definitely be the strength. The O will be run heavy this year which eats up the clock so the D won't be on the field as much which will definitely help.

I definitely agree with you. Going into the spring, AJ had a slight upper hand playing in the bowl game, but it means very little. They're going to play the best QB. While Les isn't on the "hot seat" per say. There is definitely added stress to win the West. More importantly beat Bama. I don't think AJ has that capability. This was definitely CC's offense this past year and I expect it to continue that way.

Camerban is really going to earn his paycheck this season trying to turn either JennJesuSwag or Rettig into competent passsing QB's. Don't think LSU can line up and run 90% of the time and be successful, even with the improved OL coaching and Fournette in there.

Your glass is not just half full son, it is overflowing
I'd be satisfied with another 10-3 year, which is about what Les has averaged in his 9 years in BR.
(95-24) 11-2 would be awesome though!
2015 should be a monster.

The great thing about having Cam here is that he not only brings the experience as a big time OC and play caller, but his relationship with Les gives him the trust factor allowing him to push the O in whichever direction he sees best. Of course we'll be run heavy because that's our strength, but don't be surprised to see Cam open it up a bit too if he's confident with his QB's development.
I do agree with the optomism. I get that we lost a lot of talent and our O will take a step back, but I think the D will see a resurgence with improvement in every position with the exception of DT. I also think we will see the D force a lot more turnovers then they did last season and that will mask the drop off on the offensive side. Better DB and LB play will allow Chief to be more aggressive.

wow, the OP has the P&G glasses on early. Let me toss in a dose of reality:
Offense - all our skill position starters are gone. While the OP says we have a lot of talent at QB, none of them have played much at all. And based on AJ's below-average performance in the bowl game, I'm not too optimistic at QB. Without an effective passing game, we become one-dimensional and predictable. We'll see if the guys at RB ands WR step up, but that's a big unknown.
Defense - we lost our two starting DTs, who honestly weren't effective last year. We have some LBs coming back - some are good but some aren't. Experience is good, but experience alone doesn't transform a marginal player into a good one. I do like our corners.
I love our kicker - hate our punter.
11-1? Not a chance. More like 9-3.

So offensively there are questions. In 2012, there was the same issue. An unknown QB. Mettenberger was unproven and honestly that season average at best. The WRs were a question as was the OLine due to injury. 10-2 that season. With a tough loss to Bama on the road. Easier schedule. Florida is rebuilding. That was a predominately run oriented team. That was also with a less than stellar offensive coordinator.

People don't get this, if you want to talk bad passing, you don't have to go as far back as 2010. We only scored 12 times through the air in 2012, 12! JJ had 7 on almost 150 less passes. He also brought an additional 7 TDs rushing. Together, JJ and Lee passed for 10 TDs in 2010 in 50 less attempts. All of this is still horrible, but people act like Mett came in and changed that. Cam was the reason that whole offense, from top to bottom, got better.
It's like people honestly forget how bad we looked through the air in 2012. We'll be fine passing, I have no worries about that.
Outside of who starts at safety and DT, I think we are set.

To the OP: I'm not trying to be a negatiger, but your post is the definition of seeing through purple and gold glasses.
Another way of stating the QB situation is we don't have anyone with a proven track record under center. We will likely see a young QB struggle and have to rely heavily on our running game.
WR position: same as above
Defense: Yes we have good DE and CB, and possibly a few youngsters at S to be good, but we lack stud DT and LB and depth in general.
Next year's team may be good, but I just can't see them being great without putting on purple and gold glasses.
I couldn't disagree more.

It's not so much that this team has the potential to be that '11 squad. It's that the stars are aligning for a good run. Again I default to 2012. Struggling QB, unproven WRs, so many departures from the D and that team is a fumble and a screen play from the NC.
