Does this course really make runners turn around after 8k at top of overpass, run back down, and then under the bridge? Kind of odd and clumsy IMO.
10k Course
I gather something happened last year but why didn't they just make the course go a ways up Hillsdale at 5k and turn around there like a halfway point? Any insight on this? I also notice the course is 10.4 k. Why even go up the overpass for that matter?

From the site.

New Course! Due to a particular hold up at the 2013 Mambo, we have completely redesigned the Mambo courses to avoid any such mishaps.

Last year people got caught at the train track .. Not sure at which point. I didn't get caught but I'm slow.

Ran la half last Sunday ... Does this go over the same bridge or overpass? That sucked and might keepe from doing it again. Stay here maybe and do a King Cake 5 k for Faith house.

But the NEW course goes over the tracks too(under the bridge). It's the same bridge, my friend. My GF ran the 5k last week and is doing this as her first 10k. This is not an easy 10k course. Twice up the overpass, the busted up uneven pavement on Park(ankles beware), and the hill at Lake Hills , and going back up Dalrymple. I Feel bad for her. But she wants to run so I'ma run with her. Good luck.

That map doesn't even go to the overpass, and looks very confusing.

Yes it does. Start undoing the points. It goes over it and then back up to the top, turns around, and makes runners go UNDER it.

The start took us along the Kidd .. That road was crap. Park blvd was iffy ... But it was a pretty course. I'd never run there before all the years that we lived there. Yeah your description makes me want to stay here ... Idk why they would I over tracks again ...

Good luck to your Gf. I walked that overpass up on the backside .... My hip flexors and glutes were really feeling those slight inclines. Sad I guess ... Lol.

Most definitely. A hard course don't make it a bad course.

Well shite .. Maybe I like a challenge. Ill be training for a half on 3/30 and would use it as a training run and not looking for a pr. If I can make it on the sat am I might. My daughters birthday is on valentines day so coming the night before isn't an option like last year. I ran that then we went to the LSU baseball then basketball games. I slept during baseball.

Last year it was freaking crazy windy and cold on the levee but I'd never run there either. He'll I only starte running 2 years ago at age 42 ... Husband said it was my mid life crises. Guess there are worse things!!

Ran the half last weeknd. It's a really nice course and it looks like the 15k is similar. Overpass isn't that bad. It gets the HR up, makes you feel alive.

LSUAlumni, had you run this last year? Really liked that one as it went through campus and then up on the levee ... didn't make it out there yesterday.

Any thoughts from people who ran this AND the old course?

Ran the 15K yesterday. The hills make it a race that is harder than previous years. My biggest complaint with the course was my garmin had 9.6 miles, 3/10's to long. Another problem was when the 15k race separated and rejoined the 10k race. When you rejoined the 10k, you had to weave through all the slower 10k runners. Still a fun a race that I will continue run.

I think most GPS devices will always be off by a little due to weaving around runners and if you don't run the exact way from point to point that the course was measured it can be off that much ... dislike it myself but it is what it is.

Congrats!
