Tigerdirect Website

Business Wire Press Release

quote:

(BUSINESS WIRE)--TigerDirect.com has announced today that they will be accepting Bitcoin - a peer-to-peer digital currency - as a method of payment on over 200,000 products. TigerDirect is the first major US electronics retailer and largest company to date to accept the digital currency Bitcoin via BitPay.

...

After several months of reviewing the options for processing Bitcoin, TigerDirect has chosen BitPay to provide its customers the most reliable means of transacting Bitcoin payments on their website. TigerDirect will not only accept the digital currency as payment, but will also sell the computer components used to mine the currency as well. “We’ve partnered with AMD to build the largest assortment of mining graphic cards from Sapphire, MSI, VisionTek, Diamond and XFX in the industry.” Customers will be able to utilize Bitcoin as payment on both the desktop and mobile websites.

It's been a while since we've had a bitcoin thread. I'm eager to hear the fresh ideas and feelings about the topic.

Bitcoin transactions are final. Once you have sent Bitcoin funds to BitPay to complete a TigerDirect.com order, they cannot be reversed. This is a core feature of Bitcoin currency.

Settlement

All Bitcoin transactions will be communicated in US Dollars (USD). The exchange rate provided at time of purchase by our partner BitPay will be valid for up to 15 minutes. If payment is not completed during that time, your order will expire.

Also, if you want to use Bitcoin, you shitcan your ability to return any merchandise and get your money back. Seems like a good deal.

Broke already started with his same old lame shite.

They used to argue that you couldn't spend bitcoin anywhere....and now that you can spend bitcoins at places, they move the goalposts and say "well, they aren't really accepting bitcoins because they get dollars from BitPay."

It's like they don't understand the concept of incremental change.

They are accepting US dollars as payment? Are you going to lie to everyone again with your same ole schtick?

Wiki, I'm still staunchly against paying any money for these things, but I must tell you thanks. After the last thread, it prompted me to do a little research, and I'm considering trying my hand at mining. Well, not Bits, Litecoins I think, and while I won't be spending any of my money doing it, reading about the technology involved has been pretty neat.

That being said, as I'm reading through the processes involved in mining, I couldn't help but realize I'm sitting on an untapped (not gold, but maybe....) aluminum mine. If I do, I'll report back so we can start the Skeptical OT Pool.

Just a tip, don't limit yourself to Litecoins. The difficulty in Litecoin is pretty high. You'll still be able to mine it, but you might not get much.

Consider mining other altcoins, like Worldcoin, Feathercoin, DigitalCoin, etc.

You can then trade them for bitcoins at sites like cryptsy.com

Also, check out the market caps of various coins here: https://coinmarketcap.com/

Also, if you do decide to mine, join a mining pool, otherwise you will be wasting your time.

ETA: You'll need at least a nice GPU for any successful mining.

Do not mine with just a CPU. You'll just waste your time and burn up your CPU.

First, let me just say I think everyone familiar with these threads already knows my stance on Bitcoins. But having said that, I have a question. Wiki, you just said this....

My question is this, what gives these other coins their value? I know the bitcoin's value is bases solely on what the next person is willing to give you for it. But if more and more of these "coins" just keep popping up does that not eventually lead to the market being flooded? And considering there is nothing really underpinning the value of these things other than the whims of the market, would logic not dictate that having too many of these things can only lead to devaluation of all these different coins?

A lot of people believe that will happen. I don't.

Most alts will die out. There will be a few alts that survive. Bitcoin will remain the big daddy due to the first mover advantage and network effect.

I'll do some reading on what you've said. I really have access to an unused array. For anonymity's sake, I'll just say I have full control over 25 computers and 3 servers that are never used. Really nice gear, admittedly not designed for mining, but hey if you have $100k worth of gear you could be using instead of watching it rot.... well hell, you do it, right?

I figure for one day of set up, why not try it, right?
