Be wise for this board to consider this every once in a while

quote:

He’s close enough to what he was, recognizable enough as his former self that the Eric Gordon zeitgeist becomes how his attitude and choices on the court are the reasons he never maximized his potential. We can even convince ourselves in malicious deception on his part, and that maybe he was never that good to begin with.

But I’m not willing to chalk up that missing 15% to Gordon’s on-court decision making, a lack of effort, or a swell of surliness and passivity. And I’m certainly not willing to mark it down as an illusion or an overly optimistic assessment of his previous abilities. I’ve watched the tapes. He was gold, Ponyboy.

Also included is a link to an article he wrote about any potential Gordon trade. Lots of thoughtful analysis

Yes. It's Bleacher Report. It's a good article and Levy is a legit writer. I couldnt care less about the platform.

I've wondered what happens if we can't move him. If he stays healthy and productive for the next 2 years it might not be terrible to keep him around for $7-$8 million. The only problem with that is you'll never free up enough cap space before AD extends to get anyone better than an MLE to fill the SF/C spots. Granted all we really need are competent role players at those positions, but we can't sign an above average starter level player while Gordon's on the roster.

This board?

You know better by now...

This board has no time, or use, for nuance. You're either Batman or you're The Joker, here.

Dude has said more good things about NOLA since leaving than Gordon has said since arriving.

One of the main things the trade article brings up is that keeping Gordon and working it out with Evans and Holiday isn't a necessarily bad idea. The team wasn't a contender, but they were good enough with room to grow.

Gordon is clearly overpaid, but he is still a good NBA scorer. He is among the best in PTS/Touch according to NBA.com (aside- team filter for tracking data is a most welcome addition.)

I bet they can move him this summer if they want. And I think that would be best for this roster.

His player option is scary, but given his injury history, I wouldn't be shocked to see him opt out for a 3 or 4 year deal at less money. If he thinks he can get something like 4/$36, it would be hard to risk another injury in a contract year.

one of the biggest problems with this season for me is we don't really know how good they were when healthy.

...I believe we were a couple of games above .500 in a very small sample against sub-par competition (correct me if I'm wrong).

There is room for growth, but how much? I'm not expecting major leaps from Holiday, Anderson, Gordon, or Evans...if this current team is going to grow significantly, we need big leaps from Rivers, Withey, Miller, Ajinca, etc....if we can't get this, we may have to change things up, trade Gordon, Evans, Anderson, etc.

also, hopefully team chemistry/communication will improve and result in better defense.

...nothing seems to be happening with Aminu.

of course it's all about Davis, though....the team will go as far as he takes us, and his continued improvement can make us exponentially better by itself.

...just some of my thoughts

i'm kind of expecting a deal for an expiring contract near the deadline to a team with playoff hopes...the Charlotte deal for Ben Gordon's expiring makes a lot of sense to me.

...it indirectly helps the tank (not a priority/not happening, imo), gives us the cap to add a position of need, and allows us to move on from the EG debacle which I'm convinced is what the team wants to do despite BS media compliments...JMO

Rivers is significant to all this, imo...we don't want to create a new hole by trying to fill another one. Will he ever be able to play productive minutes as a starter or backup? Can Tyreke be an effective full-time starter at SG, otherwise?

I think to this point he has proven himself as a player that could help a team get into the playoffs. A swap with the Bobcats would immediately make them a better team, but can they stomach his contract?

I say yes. He's going to help them win more games, and if there's anything they want in Charlotte, it's to win some games for once.

Kemba, Gordon, MKG, Zeller, Jefferson would be a legit starting 5 in the East.

Am I crazy? You can tell me if I'm crazy.

Pour one out today for the slivers of greatness we’ve lost out on, the shavings, the edges, the tracings and the margins. This is for Chris Webber’s lift, Amare Stoudemire’s bounce, Dwyane Wade’s endurance and Eric Gordon’s beautiful first step. You are gone, but not forgotten.

Damn. Gordon has been such an enigma in his time here. He has shown flashes of brilliance this year and I think he can still be a good player. Maybe not a 25 ppg guy but high teens is possible.

the fact that he did this last season just shows how much it has to do with effort and care rather than injury. it's pretty frustrating. i finally got around to reading the article. excellent piece.
