Peche, Italian Barrel or Irene's for V-Day?

Which of these 3 would you choose? Assume I can get a reservation at all 3.
1. Irene's
2. Peche
3. Italian Barrel
We have been to Irene's, and it is one of my favorites in the city. Never been to Peche or IB (I know they are different types of restaurants), but have heard very good things about both.
Thanks in advance.

Irene's is one of the best around, but the wait is atrocious. Don't bother with reservations; they don't stick to them. I haven't tried the other two places you mention

IB. Never been, but it's small and quaint. Cheese plates make the wife horny as well. I made that up, nothing really works.

Go on a day around ventines day and not the actual day itself

Usually do that, but since it's on a Friday this year, I figured it would be a nice night to go to dinner.

Are you looking for a romantic place, or just the best food? It romance is #1, then I'd put Irene's first, Italian Barrel 2nd and Peche 3rd. Purely for food, I'd go with Peche, Irene's and then Italian Barrel. Not knocking IB, but IMHO, based purely on food, it comes in 3rd.

All good points. Both, I guess, but I see what you are saying. Irene's is definitely #1 for the romance, and since it's V-day, probably the most important. We just like trying new places, and haven't been to Peche or IB.

My wife loves Italian Barrel.. something about the charm of the small space.. food is excellent, too.

Not sure how y'all think about "romantic" dinners .. but for me it's less about the atmosphere and more about the food. I'm not really interested in scarfing down a plate of spaghetti and meatballs plus a loaf of garlic bread then going home and having sex.
Peche is more conducive to romance, IMO. Lighter food, still a nice atmosphere .. just not as intimate perhaps (although I think that has more to do with the couple's personalities and approach to the meal). Get some oysters, some fish, some wine, some crudo; your stomach and mood won't disallow "dessert."

Very good point, Rohan...could certainly kill the mood if we fill up on heavy-arse Italian food!
Always have some good advice and opinions on this board.

if you end up going with Peche search out the reviews and threads on this board. lots of good advice on what to order.
and of course you could always go to Irene's or IB and just shy away from things like the breaded eggplant covered in tomato sauce or cheese toast and the like. sure they have mussels, fish, etc. just get a reservation soon because I'm sure they'll all fill up tout de suite !

The i-Barrell is where it's at. Women love this place. The menu is huge and delicious, with something for everyone. I strongly recommend the cheese board.
