Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter will be a candidate in Louisiana's 2015 governor's race. Vitter announced his plans in an email to supporters on Tuesday, saying "I believe that as our next governor, I can have a bigger impact addressing the unique challenges and opportunities we face in Louisiana."

The Associated Press obtained the announcement from Vitter's staff. Vitter's announcement ends months of speculation. His decision is expected to influence which other potential candidates enter the race.

Gov. Bobby Jindal is term-limited. Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne has said he will run for governor, along with state Rep. John Bel Edwards, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Others are considering the position.

Vitter can run for governor without forfeiting his current position, which isn't up for re-election until 2016.

I have no real problem with him being gov. He is a pompous prick, but at least he is conservative on economic policies.
Wish he would not push the hypocritical social agenda as much as he does.
There will be no corruption by him and he is committed to La, so he will probably have the balls to go in and make some tough reforms that Bobby didn't really want to tackle.

I'm might have to sit that one out if he's the GOP candidate. I can't stand Vitter.

You guys sure trust your politicians.

The campaign will be an entertaining shitfest. Dardenne probably thinks he is going to take the high road, but good luck with that.

You mean he won't give his blessing to John Alario for Senate President?

Yeah, I don't believe there will be absolutely no cronyism. However, I do believe he would walk that talk a hell of alot better than fraud Jindal has.

Sorry to hear that. Louisiana was doing reasonably well too.

Looks like another good reason to support Dardenne.

didn't vitter get linked to a hooker?

I can't imagine that will play well in louisiana. But I don't know local politics in your area.

No one cares. We have so many problems we need somebody who doesn't give a **** to kick some doors in and fire some people.

Have you seen the gov we have had in the last 25 years? LOL!
We had David Duke going against Edwin Edwards for Christ sake. We elected Blanco!
Our voters aren't that bright. The only voters that care about his hooker deal are the over 55 crowd. He wil show up at their gatherings and talk about bringing god back to schools, getting wellfare "fixed", and saying something nice about reducing prices of their prescription drugs and all will be well.

Seriously? The guy that betrayed his vows to his wife, made in front of the eyes of God, is going to claim that hes bringing God back? Is this a joke?

We don't ask for any personal integrity from our politicians, and then are shocked, ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED, when they are exposed for being corrupt and incompetent. Im sure this will be great for our State.

He'll win simply because of the anti-Obama, anti- "liberal" sentiment in this state.

No surprise....my question is who will run for his Senate seat?

Let's presume Mary wins again....as usual....

You don't think the sticker shock from Obamacare may fracture her usual base? At least enough to open the door for someone else?

This.
He will say all of the correct code words and get the conservatives fired up.
He has name recognition. The competition he has will not be all that good.
Game over.
Vitter is very good at the game. One of the best in the business and he has a great "team". Watch and see how this plays out.

I'm not much a fan of his, but I think he may be the only Rhodes Scholar, no?

I guess this means Bobby will run for his seat?

ETA, I thought you had sarcastically said "smartest" until I posted and saw what you actually said. Oh, well. My point stands, I guess. Although, I'm not sure I disagree with you.
