I'm trying to set up a page that I can enter employees time in/out on and it calculates the number of hours worked minus the 30 minutes taken out for lunch. I haven't used Excel to figure time before and I need help.
I enter their time in in cell A2 and the time out in B2. I set up cell C3 as the Total number of hours worked and so far I have (B2-A2) but cant get the formula to subtract the 30 mins.

=b2-c2-.5
=B2 - A2 - .5.
=B2 - A2 - .5.

Set up all cells for time, subtract 0.5 hours. Or :30.
If you cannot make that work, make column 'd' 'c2-:30 (or 0.5)' and then just hide column 'c'

If time is in hours, (b2-a2)-.5
Make .5 30 if in minutes.
Make .5 30 if in minutes.

(B2-A2) - TIMEVALUE("00:30:00")

I have no idea what line of work you are in, but the correct timekeeping method should record the specific 30 taken for lunch.
Wage and Hour does not look kindly on employers automatically deducting a lunch break.

What is Wage and Hour?

Depends on the craft and experience.
I don't make the rules, the company does. Contract states that employees get a unpaid 30 min lunch break.

So how Mexicans do you have cutting grass for you?

It's just that you have to document exact time they punch out for lunch and then back in to work
They frown on you just auto deducting for 30 min
Probably will never be an issue but if you ever get audited. You will wish it was all in order
