Preview: Missouri (14-3,2-2) @ LSU (11-5,2-2) - Tuesday - 6PM - ESPNU

Who: LSU Tigers vs Missouri Tigers
When: Tuesday, January 21st - 6pm
Where: PMAC (13,215 - 46th NCAA)
How: TV: ESPNU, Radio: 98.1FM, Stream: ESPN3.com
After getting a big win over Vanderbilt, LSU hosts Missouri with an opportunity to solidify themselves as a top 5 SEC team. Missouri comes in trying to do the same thing. Missouri has lost to UGA and Vanderbilt (two of the assumed bottom dwellers in SEC), while they were able to beat Auburn and Alabama. Missouri also has wins over UCLA, West Virginia, and Hawaii.
Missouri is a big team and do not start a player shorter than 6'5". That could be problems for LSU, but Quarterman, Morgan, and Coleman (all 6'4" and above) have played extended minutes in the 1-3 spots recently. It's Missouri's guards you have to worry about.
In their 21 point victory over Alabama this weekend, the trio of Brown, Ross and Clarkson scored 52 of the teams 68 points. They only had 4 bench points the entire game. LSU needs to come out with the same intensity they brought Saturday night, and it all starts with Johnny O'Bryant.
O'Bryant's 22 and 12 performance against Vanderbilt was just what the Tigers needed. With a new sense of excitement, LSU has an opportunity to get a big victory over a fringe mid to upper level SEC team.
Both Brown and Clarkson average over 18.5 points per game. They also do that with a slow pace. They average nearly 4 possessions less per game than LSU. If LSU can slow down Mizzou's perimeter players, they would have to feel good about their chances.
Prediction:
LSU 76, Missouri 71

We need a loud PMAC tomorrow night. Hope the students show up and bring some energy.

I'll be leaving work a few minutes early to make sure I'm there ready to rock and roll. Really feel like we could get a good student crowd tomorrow and Im hoping that we get some others in the building as well.

In here... Thanks for the write up.

My son who's an NCState student and has attended most of NCState basketball home games this season (but still bleeds purple & gold!) said that the Tigers have talented and exiting players but unfortunately the fans do not
really appreciate it. Compared to ACC, SEC basketball games are generally less rowdy; but especially in LSU home games our fans seem to be too quiet.
Let's bring the Deaf Dome back...Geaux Tigers!!!

While everything you said is true, it's pretty obvious

That's common knowledge, bro.

I agree. But in the past the Deaf Dome was real, wasn't it?

I'm worried about Missouri's dribble drives, and our ability to limit drives to the basket. We've had some problems defending the dribble drive. We'll need good defense from our guards, and the same offensive production & intensity from the Vandy game from our front-court.
The student crowd has been pretty solid this season. I think the crowd will be good despite the 6 PM tip-off.

These next four games could really set the table for momentum. A home win against Missouri would be big.
Alabama on the road has always given the Tigers fits. Then Kentucky at home will be tough.
Finally , Arkansas protects their home court pretty well.
It would be nice to win 3 of 4. A push of 2-2 doesn't really do much unless LSU can topple Kentucky next Tuesday.

We play Arkansas here for that game. So we should win.
I'll be in the PMAC tomorrow, haven't been since the UAB game.

For me the two biggest keys are:
1) Stop dribble penetration, something we have not done very well this year. Time to find our best effort there, because if we don't it will compromise us on the boards.
2) Find good balance and timing on how we play Hickey and Stringer against their big guards. To make that work, Quarterman and or Morgan are going to have to give us quality minutes.

I just don't think Morgan will give us quality play. At least, his track record suggests he won't be much of a factor. With the emergence of Martin, I think Coleman is a better replacement for Morgan in terms of guard play. With that said, Morgan still starts, and sees a good share of time at the off guard spot. I just can't say I agree with it though.

Their guards vs. our guards really scare me
That being said we hav e a huge advantage inside we need to exploit it with JOB III, Mickey and Martin

If we can bust up the zone like we did against Vandy, pass well, and work for the good look, we will roll tomorrow nite.

I expect to see some zone from Missouri tomorrow night, but I wonder if they commit to it. If our forwards are as aggressive as they were Saturday night, Missouri will lose if the play zone for the majority of the game IMO. We have to move our feet against those Mizzou guards though.

Morgan has played well in spots, so i dont see why its unfathomable to think he could do it against mizzou
Posted on 1/20/14 at 11:27 pm to tigers32
Morgan isn't very aggressive on offense, but he crashes the boards hard and plays pretty solid defense. Coleman at the 2-guard is a terrifying thought actually. We would have one ball-handler on the court
